Help HTC Hero SLOW after upgrading to 2.1

Anyone else here experiencing their HTC Hero phone being much slower in dialing after upgrading to 2.1?

In my contacts, it used to take a few seconds from the time I pressed a contact to the time it dialed. Now, it takes easily 30-50 seconds to dial.

Really SLOW. Anyone else?

do the htc update.
Menu > settings > About phone > System updates > HTC Software update

It fixes a lot of the lag problems, and a number of others, that a lot of people have been having with 2.1. Just keep in mind that this patches the root access, so if you plan on going to a custom ROM, you dont want to update.

Is it for European Heros or US (Sprint) Heros? (I know it is now in the Sprint section, but the post above indicates more confusion among members....)

Before anyone messes up their Heros with the wrong updates, maybe the thread title should be modified???

My Hero was slow as well after the update. I complained about it. Sprint sent me a replacement phone. It's actually working very well now. Why don't we have have "FRIEND STREAM"? I thought it was apart of the new HTC Sense.

I'm having the same problem. The phone hangs ALOT when opening apps or contactlist and I don't have alot installed on the phone and only 12-15 contacts.

For a slow phone after an update, or any time really, first go to Settings/System Updates and update everything there.

Then the most effective solution: Mount the phone as a disk drive and defragment it using the Windows defragmenter. It improved my phone's speed for all uses considerably.

Of course, this only defragments the SD card in the phone, NOT the phone's internal memory.

Yeah, I don't think that the SD card has anything to do with the Laggy-ass phone. Its all in the processor.

Actually, the benefit of task killers is hotly debated in androidforums...if used correctly, they can definitely kill unneeded apps. However, most background tasks in a unix-based system like Android (unlike Windows) don't steal clock cycles unless they're being actively used in the foreground.

Widgets and programs that UPDATE on a schedule are, as you correctly point out in the Tomek blog, a frequent exception to this rule of thumb. Reducing the update frequency of those IS a good tactic, as you correctly point out.

I really wish the moderator had kept the Consolidated lag-fighting thread at the top level instead of dumping it into a subforum...we're having the same discussion over and over again with every new lag-related post that comes on here because you guys didn't see the lag-fighting thread we've had going for months about all the exact same tactics for fighting lag...sigh.

((By the way, I think you meant to say "fewer" widgets and "fewer" resources on that blog, not "less" which is usually reserved for nouns that aren't plural units, like "less water" or "less air"...))

Dude...

A. I would assert that fighting lag that renders the phone unusable is a TROUBLESHOOTING item and not a "tip and trick"...

More importantly, though...

B. My key point was that average new user visits the main forum and thread list and doesn't go into the subforums right away. Thus, he would miss the important Stickies that were moved to subforums. Sure enough, a newbie started an entirely NEW Hero lag-fighting thread because he didn't see the one that was moved to the subforum. IT TOTALLY PROVED MY POINT almost on day one after the move....like...RIGHT AWAY.

GUI designers and search engine mathematicians have training in how humans use hierarchical logic. I guarantee you the would say that once you decide to HAVE subforums, you really HAVE to move ALL threads to the appropriate subforum. This helps people steer right to the area they're interested in. By leaving a ton of uncategorized threads at the top level, new users (or lazy ones) are just going to hang around the root forum...creating many more duplications than before.

Again, my point was proven right away, when duplicate threads started popping up in the main forum to replace the various Stickies that were moved to subforums.

Kinda' snippy, by the way. Do we really want to go down the sarcasm path in here?? I mean...I can do that. I'll refrain for now, but I'm the master of caustic, baby! ;O)

I do not believe that Gtalk can be removed unless you remove Google Voice and they are affiliated, correct me if I am wrong someone, I also thought the Gtalk worked with updating and syncing your Gmail
