Had my evo since launch and using it a ton. I've been using my Hero to charge up its battery so I can swap between them, which is a very workable solution until I order a long-life battery and sell the Hero.

I've kept the hero turned off until now and accidently just booted it up. I looked at the screen and it just looks PUNY next to the Evo. Its so ridiculous I laughed in amazement. The Evo has already spoiled me, I don't know how I can go back to a screen that size. I almost feel claustrophobic scrolling through the homescreens on the Hero

I came from Hero too and I did notice one thing. The widgets on the hero, while small are still very readable. That in mind, the EVO could have easily been a 5x4 layout on the homescreen rather than 4x4. The 4x4 layout on a 4.3" screen leaves a lot of wasted space

Just my .02

it could and i read something to this effect after CTIA. Honestly I don't mind, because one of the things I thought (and was correct on) is that the larger 4x4 screen makes "More Icons Widget" a zillion times easier to use. What it does is it puts 4 icons in the space of one. On the Hero, I got good enough with the screen where I could be accurate on which app/systemtoggle I hit but would still miss occassionally. Now with the larger screen, its no problem.

You can see I have two of the moreiconwidgets (1x1 and 2x1 size) on my homescreen. Theres also a 4x1 as well. It lets you shortcut to system toggles (what you see there is bluetooth, silent mode and wifi, the gear looking thing on the bottom right is to reconfigure). Also lets you shortcut to apps (you can see on the 2x1 there Astro, aTrackDog, Handcent, Gmail, Camera, Camcorder, HandyCalc)

Its an essential declutterer for me, full version is $2 on the market. Highly recommended.

Nice, I didn't know that was available, I'll have to check that out! Thanks

No problem. Another great thing from moving from Hero to Evo is that the Hero had a bug when the phone reboots and wiping your MIWidgets, so the developer had a fix but it would only allow one instance of each of the three sizes (1x1, 2x1, 4x1). EVO can do as many as you want of each. Using this widget really opens up a ton of room for more widgets on your homescreens since you dont have to use that real estate for commonly accessed apps/toggles/bookmarks/etc.

This isn't aimed at anyone here, but I'm amused by the fickle nature of customer taste. Back in the days of the Treo, everyone complained it was too big, and hoped the replacement was smaller and thinner. Palm gave the people what they asked for with the Pre. And almost every new phone since has been relatively small, at least compared to the old Treo.

Now everyone wants big, BIGGER, and MORE BIGGER.

The EVO dwarfs the Treo.

You just can't please everyone... :)

What clock is that?

I suppose you mean on my homescreen? Its from the 'Beautiful Widgets' app which costs a couple bucks. It has a variety of skinnable widgets like for bluetooth/wifi/weather etc. That particular one is 'Beautiful Smaller Home which I prefer to 'Beautiful Home because its 4x1 instead of 4x2 (the size of the stock weather/clock widget that comes with all Sense enabled phones)

funny you started this post. I used to use my iPod touch all the time and never really used my hero while at home on WiFi because I just preferred the iPod in every way. I have been of course using my EVO all the time at home or on the go, and on 4G speeds at home which is actually been faster that my wifi. Last night I was charging my Evo and about went crazy when I had to use my iPod to finish what I was looking up. iPod screen is even way too small for me now.

Just like with my Hero early on, the battery life on my Evo is driving me a little batty, but I wouldnt take back my Evo and its large screen for ANYthing.
