My phone is set to arrive tomorrow, and all I want to know are two things:
1. Did you charge the phone for the 8 hours (or until full) before you used it, or did you get to playing with it right away?
2. What were your results, in terms of battery life?

It seems like every phone manufacturer says to do this, but I'm wondering how much of a difference it actually makes.

I didn't I just used it until it died then I put one of my Eris batteries in it once it died.

I usually get between 10-16 hrs of use on the stock battery
About 12-18hrs out of the TP2
About 12-20hrs on the 1750

I didn't really condition any of them, but I did buy the 1750 used from a friend not sure if he did or not. I don't have a problem getting thru the day ever usually take my phone off the charger about 7-8am and don't get home till about 7-10pm

I'm not aware of any phone manufacturer who still tells you to do this, at least not for reasons related to battery 'health.' Maybe for some other reason - old instructions, or so you don't lose power during setup, something like that. For the most part, Li-ion's can take care of themselves.

So no, I didn't. I did charge it to full power, but I set it up on AC power and only charged it so I could pop it out and take it with me.

My battery life is abysmal. It's 3:40 in the afternoon and my phone is at 40% with light usage.

I charged it while off for 8 hours before I turned it on. Plan on buying an extended battery.

I'm on my 1300 battery today and I took mine off the charger just after 7am it's now 1:45pm and I'm at 73%

with Up Time of 6:45:00
Awake Time of 2:33:00

Actually I just checked I'm not on my my 1300 I'm on my TP2 1500. My bad, I get them mixed up lol

I didn't. I used it until it completely died (wouldn't turn back on), and then I charged it to a full charge. Right now I'm at 20 hours up time and 1 hour awake time with 59% of my battery (stock battery) left. Granted I haven't really used the phone today. When I just let it chill with light use I can see 48 hours out of it. If I use it heavily I can see about 15 or so.

Haha, so the first 2 posts are pretty much exactly opposite of what you'd expect; ChiTownJim didn't charge his phone and gets decent battery life, slackfumasta did and gets horrible battery life...I can already tell this is going to be interesting.

It's now 4:24, and my phone is down to 20% now. All I've done is send/receive 16 text messages (total in/out).

No issues with battery life unless I am using the GPS Navigation

I usually use Navigation once a day and I notice one 15minute trip can sometimes take 10% off my battery. If I use it a lot, I can literely watch the battery die lol, especially when doing GPS and Pandora at the same time I'd be lucky to get 4-6hrs Doing both the whole time

My awake time is 23:57 and my up time is 91:45. I don't turn it off because I need to receive messages from work at night if they come through.

Based on your first post, you charged it while off. So it has been on for 4 days and during those 4 days, you have "used" it for 24 hours. And you still have 20% battery? That is awesome, I don't know why you are complaining.

No no, it goes on the charger every night :)

Ok so it came off the charger this am, right? I wonder what the awake time was when it came off. Maybe it was at 10 hours or so. That would show that an app is not letting it sleep. Have you tried downloading/installing "Spare Parts"? You can check the battery history/"Partial awake time" and figure out what is keeping it awake. For me, it is usually Slacker Radio.

I voted no, but thats because the stupid VZ employee wouldnt let me have the pleasure of being the first to touch my phone & activate it.

I got it, turned it off immediately (except for the few min every now and then to show it off) and went straight to cycling the battery over the next few days.

Battery life started to improve especially after getting Substrate (a SWEET live wallpaper that doesnt use much battery), killing the auto brightness and killing all auto update programs (or at least limiting the update frequency)

Went from barely a day to easily well over a day with heavy use if fully charged

It's odd, your post just prompted me to check Adv Task Killer, and there were a crapton of apps running that I never started, some that I haven't even run yet. That was something new to me that I haven't seen previously when using ATK.
