New to Hero Please help.

You can press Menu, then go into Settings, and then About Phone. The firmware version should say 2.1 if you just got a new Sprint HTC Hero. Let us know if it says Android 1.5. If it does we can direct you to the correct website to get the necessary files to perform the update to Android 2.1 or you can take it back to the Sprint store and have them do it for you.

The slow dialer probably means you ARE on Android 2.1 as that has been a general side effect for that firmware version. You should check for the OTA (Over The Air) update that is mentioned here: http://androidforums.com/sprint-htc-hero/91019-system-update-2-27-651-6-3-17mb-fota-available.html . Let us know if you need any further assistance.

First, do the updates.

Go to Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates

Running those will most likely cure your dialer lag problem. There is an OTA update that seems to fixed most peoples problems with the dialer lag.

Didn't do a thing to fix my dialer lag, nor did it do anything to fix the lag that alot of other users lag that I have read about on here.

I think that even AFTER the update, ALOT of users are still experiencing significant lag with the dialer.

Just sayin.
