How to install android applications from computer

Hi all,

Follow this simple route:

At least for one time u should activate internet services from ur network.
Then download Astro File Manager (2 MB) to your android mobile.
Install it and that's it.
Now disconnect from internet services from your network operator.
Download .apk files from Android Freeware: Download Free Android Software and Games or any other similar site to ur computer.
Connect ur phone to computer. Copy all .apk files into the memory card of ur phone.
Browse these .apk files through Astro File Manager and u can install them without the need of android market anymore......
This procedure is simple once u get used to it.
This is just to avoid high internet download charges from network operators than cable internet.

All Android phones have WIFI capabilities...turn on WIFI on your phone, connect to the network and you can go to the market and download your apps. Wouldn't that be easier to download apps

I think this tip is better for people who cannot access some type of apps, like paid ones, on the market.

I didn't call him a spammer. From what I could see, the apps on the website are entirely (and legally) free, so not (technically, at least) spam, whether or not it's his site.

But I didn't read any other posts of his, so I may be blowing hot air. Dunno. Just wasn't accusing him of spam. 'Cause I hate Spam. lol

with dropbox, if i upload a apk to my dropbox, if i than download it on to my phone will it try to install automatically or would i just be able to save it to my memory card to install another time?

You can move it anywhere on your sdcard that you want, or just leave it in the Dropbox folder. It won't install until you click on it in Astro, or any other installation app, and tell it to install.

Sign up for dropbox on that website and download the software on your computer. Afterwards, go onto the market and install the Dropbox app. Log into it with your account and you're ready to go

You can do that too, I just find that it's faster on the market Plus some phones don't allow to access apps outside of the market.

umm. why would you go through all this trouble..
all you need to do is connect to a wifi network on your phone and download .apk files to your phone or do it throught the comp. and you dont need to worry about high download charges if you have unlimited data.. who would get a smartphone without a unlimited data plan???

If you are using Dropbox to download the .apk, onto your phone, you are transferring the same amount of data as if you just used the Market on your phone.

So, the data cost is the same.

Hi All

Thanks for taking interest in my post.... that was my first post after purchasing Xperia ... i knew little about Android then..... so i could not explain much.....

But after seeing this post, as many as 50 people mailed me in the past one yr regarding the apps installation.....

I keep on replying them as good as i can......

@ Instantkarma..... I am not a spammer nor I own that website..... at that time i know only that site..... so i helped everybody.. who are new to android...

1) I recently bought an xperia x10i(android 2,1)...but sadly i dont have any data services yet.And i wud love to download .apk files using my pc's broadband connection and transfer it to sd card.But my phone didnt come with any apps installer or file manager
what should i do?...i have seen some forums where in i need to download some software to my pc...but i didnt fully understand it...could u please explain step by step method of how to do that and also let me know if there is any harm if i do so

I guess you'll be appless for a few days. It really sucks that there's no file manager that comes stock on the X10.
