Help Anyone else having problems turning EVO on after powering off?

It is a confirmed problem with my EVO. I rarely turn off phone, but when I do, I hold power button to get the screen to power off.

I hit POWER OFF.

Phone shuts down. But when I try to turn it on again, it doesn't do anything.

Every single time I have to take the battery out and put it back again to make it work.

Does anyone else have had this problem?

This is the only problem I have encountered with my EVO.

Is it a defective phone?

Can I change it for another one?

I had the problem once, I didn't take the battery out though, I just plugged in the charger (even though the battery was pretty much full) and then it would turn on again.

I didn't think twice of it, because the few times I turned it off, I noticed you need to let it sit for a little (maybe 10-15 seconds in my experience) before I was able to turn it back on. Unless its just my phone, I just think the Evo needs to breathe for a moment before restarting.

I could be speaking about a totally different issue, of course.

I had this happen when I would power off then immediately try and power back on.

Now.........after reading this thread I just powered off, waited about 20 secs, pressed the power button once, I could see something faintly flash 2-3 times in the grill/earpiece area, then the phone powered on. I just tried this twice and it worked both times.

This is what is happening. Not even with my above explanation it worked.

This is what's happening.

If you power off the EVO, and try to turn it on again immediately. It won't do anything.

You have to wait and then try it again.

For me, it's no big deal, I just didn't want to take battery in/out for this to work.

But for some people, they won't tolerate this.

You don't have to wait 15 seconds or pull your battery. The secret is pushing the power button for the right about of time to turn it on then letting go of it and waiting. If you hold it too long it won't work because it then shuts itself off before it goes on and if you hold it too short a time it won't go on.

I had the same problem and was ready to swap out my EVO but now it works 100% of the time. It's in the timing of pressing the button. The "hold down" time is VERY sensitive. It's longer than a quick push and release and shorter than counting to 2.

If you continue to have a problem then your phone is defective or you're not getting the timing right. It's not supposed to work the way you say it is.

Yes, wait a few seconds. More important. When starting up. Press down and hold the power key for a few seconds and let go. There will be a momentary lag, DON'T touch the power button again! The phone will then start every time.

+1

I think it has a time delay where if you power it off you can't power it right up again, I would say about 30 seconds.

Yep, I've had this problem. Battery pull seems to fix it.
There is no problem, you're not doing it right.

Power off, count to 5, then press the button for a short half-second (an instant quick push doesn't turn it on it has to be a "solid" push) then WAIT.

It takes a couple seconds for the phone to start. The screen does not come on instantaneously so if you get impatient and press the button again thinking it didn't work you just turn it off before the screen comes on!

I had the identical "problem" and was ready to return the phone. I kept pulling the battery. I finally got the hang of it and it has never failed me since. The "secret" is to WAIT after you press the button. The phone actually starts BEFORE the screen comes up.

Someone other than me posted this, but I have verified it to work. If your looking to do a softreset, press both volume keys and hold the power button for 3-4 seconds, the phone will reboot on its own like a soft reset.

Its not a problem at all they all do it. You must wait at least 30 seconds before turning the phone back on once you shut it down. Then you must HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON for about FOUR SECONDS until the screen comes on then release it. Its how the phone is supposed to work.

Guys when you power down, look at the notification, its still blinking, it means its still shutting down, even if the screen is off. Don't pull the battery out when its still powering down lol. When the notification stops blinking, then it's turned off. When I powered down for the first couple of times, I saw the notification still blinking, then stopped. After that it was able to turn on.

Or.. just use the latest Quick Boot app. Unless your phone is hung, there is no need to physically power cycle it.
