monthly charge on t-mobile (non-contract)

so how much do you pay t-mobile monthly? i'm looking to get a nexus with no contract and cant seem to find a straight answer on how much i would be paying per month. my friend who upgraded paid $279 for the phone and $80/month. i'm currently paying a little over $80 for my blackberry with data and am willing to buy the nexus for $529 if the monthly is significantly cheaper than what i am paying now. i use around 150 mins talk and need unlimited texts.

is data the same as web access?

thanks for your help!

In your situation you can get Individual Talk + Text + Web, which is 500 min, unlimited sms, and unlimited data for $59.99 a month without tax.

If I were you I would call up T-mobile and cancel the $10/mo text message part of the $59.99 Even More Plus plan and use Google Voice to send text messages for free instead ;)

I got my N1 on ebay. New with box and all accessories and an extra HTC battery for $530. If I had waited a month, I probably could have had it for $100 cheaper. But I wanted it before a vacation we were taking.

Check ebay, there are plenty of people selling new ones for under $500.

As for the TMoble plans, the cheapest with talk, text and web is $59/month. Plus tax and fees. So figure $65-70 for your final bill.

i've actually been finding deals like this on craigslist but am kind of scared i might end up with a chinese bootleg nexus since i've never seen the phone in person so i wouldnt know how to differentiate between a real and a knockoff. but yeah, you found a pretty good deal essentially getting a free battery out of it.

You phone would keep it's current number :)

Lets say when you first bought a Nexus One with T-Mobile you chose the number (111)111-1111.

And later on you signed up for Google Voice and chose a Google Voice # of (222)222-2222.

You then log into your Google account and tell it that if anyone calls (222)222-2222 then Google Voice is supposed to forward that call to your (111)111-1111.

From then on tell everyone your phone # is (222)222-2222 and so when they text that Google Voice number it's free and all your calls will be forwarded to your phone.

Hope this helped without being too confusing :)

sounds simple enough, thanks! i guess the hard part would be getting people to completely change my number to the google voice one. i could see racking up $10 in texts for the first couple months.

Well if you do your research and watch a lot of video demonstrations of the N1 on youtube, you'll basically know what to expect. With craiglist, you meet up with the person and you can test the product they are selling before buying it. If you don't like what you see, you can reject the offer.

I spent a good 2-3 weeks just watching ebay auctions. I found a handful of sellers I felt were trustworthy based on their feedback, the types of items they sell (mainly cell phones and accessories) and if they had sold any of the Nexus Ones before. That was a big one for me, I wanted to see them get good reviews from sales of the Nexus One.

I see them even cheaper now.

Basically since the N1 isn't an OFFICIAL T-mobile supported phone they cannot tell it is a smart phone. Just go to your online T-mobile account and put any dumb phone as your phone and add the 10$ data plan. You also need to edit a few settings on your phone and that's it. Go here for full details. configuring N1 with tmo's $10 unlimited web for phone service - Page 2 - Nexus One Forum - Google Phone Forum

It works for me and a lot of people in that thread say it works but I'm not going to tell you it'll work for sure.

I have Even more plus 39.99$ (500 Min+unlimited Text)+10$ for data so= 50 plus taxes :)

If you've been a customer a few years you can also try and get cheaper prices by talking to the retentions department. (this is copy and paste from here)$20 Preferred Android Internet (post 30)

Preferred Free Family Allowance
Prefereed Familytime unlimited messaging (couldn't find the price for this one)
Preferred Message Bundle 300
Preferred Unlimited Data (web2go but 5 dollars cheaper) $5
Preferred Unlimited Data (smartphone, sidekick, android, mytouch, blackberry bis only) $20.00

Offers are only available from customer loyalty but gen care has access to the data plans, this must be a system glitch. I'm sure the reps who don't read streamline will see the feature and might offer it. If not loyalty can.

if anyone knows...would i be able to reply to texts normally on the phone or will i need to do it thru google voice? i just ordered my nexus last night and wanted to get this ready before i call t-mobile about changing my plan to the $60 one (then hopefully -$10 after taking the texts off).

The Google Voice app lets you receive immediate text messages. It notifies you the same way a regular text message would and Google Voice has the advantage of making the trackball flash green as a notification.

You pull down the top status bar and click on the text message notification to reply with the Google Voice app. Its super easy once you do it for the first time :)

thats what i figured...i tested it out with my bb curve and i was getting double notifications (had to uncheck the text forwarding to my email) and the texts themselves had a bunch of junk in it aside from the actual message. guessing it should look like normal texts on the gv app on the nexus.

you guys have been so much help thank you again. this is a great site...cant wait to actually have the phone in my hands.
