I don't think it was intentional, I think the original message was just worded poorly. The original message said something to the effect of "more than Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre sales for the first 3 days combined." Which we all took to mean more than both of these phones put together. But I think the intent was that they were saying it sold more than either phone did over the first 3 days combined.

The fact that they corrected their error shows good intentions. It would be misleading to investors to do anything but be accurate about this and no one wants SEC involvement.

Well, we've had several people try to start threads about this here...claiming that Sprint was lying about the sales numbers. If they were lying, then why did they correct it themselves? Also, as you alluded to in your own comment, it's not terrific PR. I'm guessing that somebody at Sprint got fired over screwing up the number counts. It happens.

I would think about renaming the title of this post, unless you have some evidence that they were, in fact, lying about the numbers. I doubt it. The fact that they had to correct it is very embarrassing for them. Doesn't sound like a 'plan' to me.

Stop worrying about how many phones were sold, and start putting up threads that have a bearing on using your phone in the every day real world.
