Help OK guys, let's talk about.. LIGHT LEAKAGE.

I feel this is a serious problem and I know there have been some threads about it here and there, but nobody really seems bothered enough by it to do anything about it, at least that I've seen. Has anyone returned or exchanged their phone because of this?

I'm heading to the Sprint Store tomorrow before work to see what they suggest and if they can't help me, I'm taking it back to Radioshack to attempt to exchange it for a new phone. To me, it's inexcusable to pay this much for a phone and have such bad light leakage. Mine is VERY visible underneath the "home" and "search" buttons at the bottom of the phone, and slightly visible under the "menu" and "back" keys.

I've noticed, as I'm sure others have, that you can press down on that area and it will temporarily cover up the light leakage, but that presents an even bigger problem to me. If you look closely when you press down, you can see that you're actually pressing down on on the black part of the screen, pushing it back into the phone to cover up the area it was designed to cover..which means, when you're not pressing down on that, the screen is sticking up in that area slightly higher than it should be..I can only chalk this up to poor design by HTC.

It really irked me when I was showing my phone off to my iPhone-zombie brother and the FIRST thing he noticed was the light leakage at the bottom..totally killed the phone for him and even though the rest of it is awesome, he had trouble taking the phone seriously and I can't blame him. Fact is, having light leakage at the bottom like that makes the phone look CHEAP. I purchased the platinum Seido cover at Best Buy which covers up the leakage, but all in all I prefer to use the phone naked because it looks and feels better that way, but I simply can't do that in its current state. It's absolutely unacceptable to have such a correctable problem on such a high-end phone.

Anyone else want to share their thoughts? Has anyone returned their phone because of this???

I have no idea what everyone is talking about. Pictures please?

This is a picture from the Engadget review, this is pretty much exactly how mine looks..

I have the same issue, but just below the home screen. It's been getting worse over the week. I don't know what I should do. I've already exchanged one phone due to a dead pixel and now this would be the second one for light leakage. This is rather bothersome, but I don't want to seem like a tool for exchanging the phone so many times. If I bought it at RS, can I exchange it at any RS?

Mine is so minor, and I have no other issues, I don't plan on taking it back over it. I have the insurance stuff on it, I can always get it replaced once.
All my Treo's got dust behind the screen, my HTC Touch Pro got a little behind it, seem's unavoidable. I don't recall anyone at my office having a dust problem with iPhones though, gonna have to inspect a few devices I guess...

This issue has been discussed and polled on a competing forum. People are coming to the conclusion that it is a problem with the adhesive. case in point, my phone didn't display any light leakage on night one. Now, I can see some coming from under the home button. If it is what we think it is, the adhesive will give a little on a lot of devices.

People on the other thread are encouraging those with the leak to contact HTC support and log the issue. If enough people call, it might get HTC's attention.

At this point, if it is the adhesive, exchanging isn't going to do much in terms of a long-term solution.

I have some light leak similar to the engadget picture posted but I've decided it's not a big enough deal to warrant a replacement. I have insurance and if anything becomes of it I'll get a new one. I just hope nothing actually does become of this minor issue.

Stupid phone and it's stupid adhesive issue. I hope there's some fix that can be easily done that surfaces. :\

IF that is even possible

I got alittle on my but you really have to look at it in the dark to even notice. I say case it an move on if thats the only issue you got. Thats just how I look at it.

Good outlook. I'm trying to get that kind of 'tude about it. I got the Platinum case so I can barely see any leakage. I've pried open my case at least 6 times to get a good look at what's up. It's really not a big concern but still in the back of my mind at least while the phone is still "new" in my mind.
