Alarm Clock won't ring if the device is turned off?

Hi,

It looks like I am obliged to let my phone turned on to make it ring for the alarm clock. Am I right? At least, this is what seems to happen with Math Alarm Clock (I did not test yet with the built-in alarm clock).

yes, the alarm clock is an app running on android, so it can't function if the os isn't running

There is no way you can have the phone off and have the alarm clock work. That would be like unplugging/turning and alarm clock off and have it still work. The alarm clock is a piece of software that is running on the phone. If the phone is off then there is no hardware turned on so there is no software running, including the alarm clock, or any software to "wake up" the phone.

If you just put it into sleep mode though it will work just fine.

By `traditional' phone, I mean some old phone such as Sony Ericsson K750i. My k750i was able to wake up just for waking me up. The difference between my HTC and my SE is that I need to let my HTC in sleep mode, okay, but still turned on (using the battery and emitting sometimes, which is completely unuseful), to be woken up in the morning, when my k750i would have lasted longer, at least because it would not have used the battery during a night, for nothing.

Try flight mode, that should save a bunch of battery, and prevent it sounding for notifications etc.

Blackberry's are unusual in that they're not truely OFF unless you pull the battery.

If you shut a blackberry "off" its in an ultra low power sleep state and can wake itself up for alarms and such.

Think of it like sleep mode on a PC.

I have the blackberry tour and the alarm will go off even if the phone is turned off or if its on silent. I love that feature a must have.

multiple people including me have mentioned owning dumbphones that have alarm clocks which go off when the phone is turned off - it's not like your going to convince any of us that we were just imagining it...

Airplane mode is your friend. I put my phone in Airplane mode when I go to bed, one is stops any calls/texts coming through and 2 it means I don't have unnecessary radio waves bouncing around my head while I'm sleeping.

Thanks, then. If there was not any airplane mode, it would be stupid to have to let the mobile turned on to be woken up in the morning, because if someone argues that `deactivating the mobile deactivates the alarm clock' is a nice feature, one would better learn how to deactivate the alarm at the place of deactivating the phone.

Zenze, you are wrong.
My previous phone - a super cheap $30 (non smartphone) little Nokia - did it just fine. I would set the alarm clock at night. Turn the phone off. And in the morning the phone would automatically turn on and wake me up with the alarm.

This function is very important to me as I often travel in places where electricity is not always available, and I need to wake up early but cannot leave my phone on all night because it will drain the battery

I hated this feature on my old phones. I would always live in fear that the alarm would go off during an exam even though my phone is off.
