this is dumb but i have to ask. the plastic on the back of the motorola droid between the keyboard and the screen (its on the back side of the screen) is that suppose to come off or is that a glide pad? because i took a little corner off and it was pretty hard to get off, more so then the rest of the plastic i took off.

I took mine off. There is no way they are going to design a beautiful piece of hardware like this and then ship it with a sheet of saran wrap as part of the engineering.

I took it off as well, this thing already gets hot enough, don't want to smother it in plastic to cook it even more.

My G1 had something similar and I took it off, but it came off much easier and was obviously meant to. I didn't take it off my Droid yet but maybe I will sometime, just wish it didn't have any bubbles.

Anyway, I just took it off. It felt like a protective plastic layer.

I'm leaving mine on, it doesn't seem like normal plastic protectors, and I'd rather wear the sliding action on that than on plastic/metal.

You can see some wear from sliding on that if you look carefully.

just got off the phone with Verizon and Motorola. they both said you are suppose to take it off. said if it leaves makes on your phone and if it does its a defective phone and its free of charge for a new one. motorola said they opened and closed the phone 100,000 times (i thought that was a bit much lol) when testing and it doesnt leave marks. i took mine off and its looking good so far. doesn't open that much easier but it slides better. i give it a yes for taking it off

BUMP for the thread starter because I just found out about this piece of plastic as well. I was gonna start a new thread but apparently I don't have to!
Plastic definitely has to go, while it is a bit harder to come off than the other pieces that were on the phone, removing it eliminates any crunching while sliding open and closed. Glides so smooth!

This is the funniest topic that I've followed since day one on about 5 other sites...

People say to leave it on, others say take it off. Tons of people have claimed that they spoken to Verizon, others say they spoken with Motorola... And they all have seemed to hear a different story.

What it comes down to, is do what you feel is right...

I removed said plastic film after I found it, and also because I noticed that it was getting snagged and beginning to deteriorate back there. My DROID is still very tight (unlike the store demo bodies) and I have had no issues whatsoever with it being removed.
