Ok so i am new here and and looking for the 2.2 upgrade. I dont know too much about it but i hear it has good features. Any kind of into helps.

Download: Newer Motorola Droid Froyo Leak FRF57 | Droid Life: A Motorola Droid Blog

I saw this link but i really have no idea how to download the update. I also saw something about rooting??? I dont know what that is or what it does.

Can someone help me out and give me some info in normal english i may be able to understand. Also what can happen to my phone if the update doesnt work or i do it wrong? Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the links! I am starting to feel like this is something i should not do. I really dont know much about this stuff. In every video they are using words i dont even know what they mean. lol

I am not rooted, but I would feel very comfortable in doing it if I ever decide to root my phone. Just read everything in the all things root threads and watch all of the videos. Then read everything and watch all videos again. Then just keep reading and watching until you feel comfortable rooting. It really is not that hard or scary, as long as you read and watch until you fully understand what you are actually doing when rooting your phone.

P.S. The people who frequent the all things root threads are very helpful and will be happy to help if you run into any problems while rooting. Again, just read and watch until you truly understand what you are doing.

Yes you are going to need to root. Once you root, you can use ROM manager to flash its recovery option, which will let you install ROMs and make backups of your current ROMs. Please read everything you can before rooting so that way you dont mess anything up. Search the forum a lot of information is here.

Darkwarrior006 already answered your question, but I thought I'd go ahead and throw in some additional info as well.

I got most of my information and knowledge from this forum in the All Things Root sub forum of the Motorola Droid forum. However, I also got a lot of good info from other forums across the web. I did Google searches and some of the threads in this forum had links to other places that gave me very good info and tips and tricks.

If you do decide to root, good luck and enjoy. The things you can do with your phone while unrooted are amazing, but when you root, the possibilities are endless.

Keep us posted.

could someone fill me in on how to get froyo for my nexus1??? and could someone also explain the difference between rooted and unrooted

You would want to check out the Nexus 1 forums for information about getting 2.2 on your phone.

As for Rooted vs. Unrooted...it's really simple. Being "rooted" simply means that you have root access to your phone's software. This allows you to modify files and settings that the phone manufacturer and carrier block. Adding a custom ROM (operating system) requires that you write over data that is normally not accessible...but with root access...you have "super user" access to all files/directories on the phone.

The reason they block it is because you can really mess up your phone to the point it will no longer function REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU DO. This is called "Bricking" your phone and while it is a concern...as long as you follow basic instructions you should have no problems.

Kentucky11 may I offer a suggestion? Before you attempt to root your phone download RSD lite and the instructions for how to go back to stock just as a precaution and don't forget to back up everything. You will see it in the Root section over and over again. It will save your butt should something go wrong and you need to get back to where you started.
