xScope, a multitouch pinch zoom browser

The app doesn't manage to save or cache things. It relies on webkit. So The same behavior should be observed across webkit browsers (stock, skyfire, or dolphin).

I have tested it with the stock and dolphin browser and on both browsers it works (auto complete for already typed-in urls). the history works on all browsers correctly.

btw the urltyping in dolphinbrowser is very compfortable because it shows some hints from google (i think at least 5 as a dropdown) maybe a feature for xscope? on xscope you have also freespace between the keyboard and your custom url-typing bar at the top. (only at my htc desire?)

The tab bar isn't working for me. It shows up, and I can slide it back and forth when there are four or more tabs, but I can't select other tabs, and I can't close the current tab - it's as if it's ignoring any taps.

This is not a big issue for me, but it's a nuisance.

Having tried Opera Mini, Dolphin, Steel, and more, I'm happy to report that xScope is, without a doubt, the browser for me! FYI, I'm holding off of buying a full version and making it my default browser - waiting for Motorola to upgrade Android! Waiting, and waiting...

Same problem happens to Froyo but fixed.
1.5 is very much different from 1.6 and above. The graphics scaling is not very good somehow. I will try to backport the current froyo release to 1.5 if I have time.

Single click on the address bar, or just click the SEARCH key at the bottom of your phone, you will see the same quick search box. Exactly the same as stock or dolphin.

Hi folks and xScope, after a long search i finally found xscope and so far i am more than pleased using the light version. I ditched Opera for now.

some suggestions:
- i read that the paid version - which i will buy - has a kind of running app. manager, sorry but this does for me NOT belong into a web browser.
- i love the way Opera handles the Bookmarks (folders) etc. When you have up to 150 bookmarks in xscope with no folders it's getting complicated.

Wy don't you ditch this app manager and implement instead a good Bookmark tool. Your favorites convert into a kind of quickdial like Firefox has.


Now an other problem i have. I am German but living in Argentina. The world does not accept Argentine Credit Cards even if they are Visa, etc. Can you believe it, so i can't buy on the market (xscope Pro does not even appear) not on other pages which request C-Cards.

xScope can i buy from you direct by PayPal?
Using Motorola Milestone wit Android 2.1

I am not sure about this specific one. xScope does user android's builtin quick search facility.

That means the webkit in your phone doesn't play it.
I think 2.2 fixed this. And also I believe cyanogen mod fixed it too.

Add a "Properties" item to the long-click menu, and have it display a nicely-formatted output of file type, date created, date last modified (both of those with HH:MM:SS, which was squeezed out of the basic directory list), size in bytes (not kB or MB), mode (R/W or R/O)... anything else? I'm just thinking of the Linux "ls" command and stat() system call - does Android use symbolic links? Anyway, you get the idea.

Excellent browser!! More than 2x as fast as stock and I love the layout. But if I could suggest 1 thing. Can you implement the magnifying glass like in the stock browser? The 1 where if you start scrolling it'll appear on the bottom left corner of the screen. It's useful when trying to scroll on a really long page

Edit: Also, when I zoom in, the page doesn't format accordingly. I have to keep scrolling over to read the words. Is there going to be a fix for this in the future?

The nice thing about android is that you can always buy an app and uninstall within 24 hours to get full refund automatically.
To answer your question:
1.) I will probably make the number of tabs configurable in the future.
2.) It is a setting. I will expose this in settings.
3.) Retrieve global bookmarks will grab all stock bookmarks. However, lite version has 9 limit. When you save to global, stock browser can see them.

Played around with it more last night and getting used to it.

I deleted my global bookmarks on accident using xscope and had to recreate them (I didn't have many, so not a big deal). I didn't realize Android had global bookmarks like that, but that's cool.

What are other differences between lite and paid version?

The only other thing that I'm having a little problem with, is when I long click a link, sometimes nothing happens (when it should open a new tab). I haven't quite figured out when it works and when it doesn't yet, but does anyone else ever see this behavior. Not sure if I have to click the link in a certain spot or certain way. I need to test more.

One other minor suggestion. I actually don't want this, but I'd be surprised if it hasn't requested. You might want to have the option to open new tabs in the foreground. I much prefer background opening, but some other browsers have this as an option.

First of all, thanks for the copy of Xscope, I think it's really generous of you to help people in non-market enabled countries like that.

Secondly, with regard to the user agent string, I have it set to computer, all sites seem to be OK except google search, which is a right mess. If I set the user agent to android for the google.com domain, it works some of the time, using computer its almost always messed up and I need to scroll to the bottom and select classic search. Is there any way to always force use of google classic, or is there a way to edit the user agent (beyound the 5 options in settings) so I can mess around with diferent settings. I am aware that google likes to force use of the mobile view, but I prefer classic.

Hi xScope,
Just wanted to add my thanks for a great product. I started off on Stock, went to Dolphin, then went to Opera Mini because of speed. Dolphin is relatively slow, but has great presentation quality. Mini is fast, but has really poor presentation fidelity.
I find xScope to be right in the middle... much faster than Dolphin, with great page display quality.

I'm going to play with it for a few days, but I'm sure I'm destined to buy it (which would be only my second paid app).

Only suggestion I have so far is that I love Opera's bookmark handling (sync to PC is a huge bonus, but the basic folder structure is great)... folders are great, even one level of folders would be nice.
