I just put the entire movie Avatar in 720p on my EVO, and played it out through HDMI into my home theater system. IT ROCKS!!. Smooth as silk, and sounds fantastic! My EVO is 100% stock, no root, and the original 8gb class 2 microSD card. Now how long must we wait for the 32gb class 2 cards to drop below $100?

The "classness" of microSD cards is how fast they write. The all read pretty fast and there is really no way, except a benchmark, to quantify it and know which cards are faster than others. Here's one of many such benchmarks: Benchmarks - CHDK Wiki.

2GB is awfully small for a 162min 720p movie. I would say at minimum you would want it to be 4GB with 8GB being close to perfect.

So still not the perfect stress test but good to know it played fine. It's worth remembering though class only rates write speed, read speed will usually be about 3x higher.

a long time...it's hard to find 32gb for 200.00 and I don't know anyone who would pay that.

The conversion is not 720p. The article referenced above says to drop the resolution to 480x800 which is NOT HD. Specs say the EVO is capable of 720p video output. Does anyone know the specs of a 720p vid it will play?

I can use the internal camera to shoot a 720p vid. It saves it as a 3gp file. Contents are video at 720p encoded mpeg4 3gpp release 4. Audio is AMR in mono.

Looks pretty odd to me. Any 'normal' formats known to work at 720p?

HTCSync.exe is on there, but I haven't used it yet. Also, any music or anything else you've saved to your SD card will be on there.

The "normal" format it (and most other Android phones) play is MP4

i def disagree with this, my friend. there's a guy on demonoid that has 720p rips of movies that are 2.20gb. they look amazing on my 1080p HDTV...substantially better than SD but not quite 1080p, which is understandable since it's a 720p rip. so, no need for 4gb files.

if you know what you're doing, you can get a smaller file to look almost as good as a larger one.

The stock 8GB card in the phone is class 2 and it does 720p video... I'd assume it must work!

if you know what you're doing, you can get a smaller file to look almost as good as a larger one.

I just bought a 32gb class 2 Kingston microsd for $22.39. And I've seen them sell for less!

I beg to differ, transferring a gb worth of pictures from phone to computer... 10minutes vs 30minutes is a noticeable difference.
