Is it possible to seal the screen from dust entry?

Some users are reporting that they have dust under their screen. Hopefully it was a manufacturing error and didn't get in there post assembly. However recent reports of other users saying water freely got under their screen when they installed a screen or body shield have me concerned. Is there a reasonable way to absolutely and definitively seal the area around the screen to prevent dust entry? It would have to be invisible to the eye for it to be feasible. I was thinking that a black thread inserted in the gap might act like a gasket and completely eliminate the possibility of dust entry. I don't know if this is even possible to do and I am too chicken to attempt it. But if it worked it would be removable too. Any thoughts on this or other ideas?

Oh great, I was really hoping HTC's crappy build quality would have been remedied by know, or at least, Sprint would have looked closer at the EVO and learned from the horrible build quality of the Hero.

Not true, Samsung has good hardware also. I have never had a physical problem with any Samsung phone Physical I said Physical!

You should never cover up your holes, they need air. It might develop a fungus.

Finally a realistic option! The fine bead of sealant mentioned earlier would probably do the trick but what about if the phone ever needed service? I wonder if HTC/Sprint would realize it was added? And how would you get that fine of a bead that would fill the cracks around the phone without spilling over?

Thanks I went out and got a piece of amber but I don't think that's enough.

Just in case I want to go the sealant route too (you can never be too sure) does anyone know where to get a clear sealant in a container that will deliver it in the super fine bead that this would require? I'm almost envisioning a syringe type applicator.

lol, I can't tell if you are being serious or not. If you are, then I don't know what to say.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Evo to death but dude, everyone has a 1 year manufacturer's warranty. Dust would be included in this. If it ever develops dust in say 6 months, trade that sucker in for a new one.

how bout super glue. apply it in sections and wipe the extra residue off fast. as for me im just going to take it back if i get dust under the screen.

I think some phones suffer more than others with regards to dust under the screen. I have taken delivery of three HTC Desires and all three have had dust under the screen straight out of the box. I did some research into the history of HTC devices and it seems quite a few have had this problem.

Not likely that you can. If you try to seal around the screen, cust will just get in through the HDMI and USB port, the headphone jack, around the volume and power buttons. The only way to truly ensure that the screen is "dust proof" would be to disassemble the phone and seal it from the inside. The problem is, you will either damage something else in this process, or when you open up the phone, dust will get in the screen and you wont be able to get it as clean as it was before.

You would also run the risk of trapping moisture in there and having water problems. Not likely, but possible.

That is my opinion at least. I figure if the problem gets bad enough on my phone then I will just use my TEP, that is what it is for after all is it not?
