This is my first Android phone so I might just not know what I am doing. At work we have an open wi-fi network for patients and visitors to connect to. When they connect for the first time they are automatically re-directed to a sign on page where they must provide their e-mail address. After that they are free to use wireless internet services. My EVO will not re-direct to the page. When I tried it on a friends iPhone it worked just fine. My phone has not been rooted and i have tried both the default browser and two that I downloaded from the market. The phone is connecting to the WiFi and getting a strong signal. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have the exact same problem. Wifi works fine on my home wireless network (encrypted); however, at work we have a public wifi network...not encrypted (i.e. open) but requires a username and password...so when you try to access it for the first time, your browser is supposed to direct you to a page where you enter username and password once (provided free to all visitors who request it from the front desk) and you can then surf the web for free (that's how it works for visitors who bring laptops, iphones/pads etc...

Well, every time i try to access it from my evo, the phone states that it is connected properly to the network and signal is strong...but when i open the browser I just get an error message, instead of the sign-in page.

I've googled this quite a bit and it seems to be a problem afflicting android phones in general and seems to only happen with public wifi spots (like at motels/hospitals etc..not home wireless networks)

I'd really love to hear from anyone who has solved that problem.

I had this problem on my hero once. I believe it was the Dolphin browser app that didn't like being redirected, so I switched to the XScope browser and it works fine.

Perhaps you should try out a few different browsers and see if that makes a difference.
(You don't have to stick with the new browser once you've logged in, of course).

Thanks for the tip. I've tried multiple different browsers including dolphin and xscape and I get the same error message. If anyone else knows of a solution or has an idea please let me know.
