Facebook for HTC Sense and the Phone Book

Has anybody found a way to remove Facebook contacts that HTC Sense Facebook adds to the overall phone book once you sign into this app? (The list that appears when you press Phone and not the People app.)

It's quite annoying having to trawl through lots of unnecessary non-Google Contacts entries to find the legitimate ones I want in my phone book.

My All People list has never had the Facebook View ticked and correctly displays just my Google Contacts, which is the only View ticked, but when you click on Phone the phone list displays all my Google Contacts and all my Facebook friends who display a phone number. I haven't found any way to remove these Facebook contacts from the Phone list, not even unchecking the Contacts Sync option for HTC Facebook works. The Phone list needs the same View option that the People app has got.

Linking

How does HTC Sense Facebook make associations with Google Contacts?

I've got three contacts where the phone has auto linked Facebook to Google, one doesn't have any details that match, Facebook name is different and they don't share their e-mail address on Facebook, and now has code in the notes section of their Google Contact entry to make the link, the other two names match their Facebook names exactly and don't have any code in their Google Contacts note section.

When you go into your phone (as in press 'phone') do you have a list of your contacts there?

Yes, all my Google Contacts and Facebook contacts (people who display a contact number on Facebook) appear in one massive list when you press Phone on the screen and it's very cluttered. When you go into the People app you can choose what to view, but so far I haven't found a way to remove the Facebook contacts from the Phone list without signing out of HTC Sense Facebook altogether, but then you lose all its functionality.

What about my other question:

What's so special about these three contacts and why hasn't it auto linked any of my other Google Contacts that are my Facebook friends?

Not sure why yours in like this, as I said before mine JUST shows me the list of my last calls.

I'm not sure that it actually is the app 'Facebook for HTC Sense' as my phone is not logged into it and hasn't been since I did a factory reset, yet my contacts were linked automatically when the names were shared.

There is the problem that Facebook contact photos don't update and so far the only solution has been to sign out of FB for HTC and just use FB for Android. Perhaps this may solve your problem too.

So you haven't tried DailerOne as I suggested further up in this thread that resolves this problem and is a far better dialler than the stock Dialler?

Dialer One - Android app on AppBrain

He's after a solution to a problem and perhaps not a completely different app.

Scroll down past your call log and you will then see a list of your contacts, and you WILL see this issue. It is also a problem on the Legend.
ok yes now I see the list. I don't really see why this is a problem though. If I want to find someone I do it through People or from the search button.

Everyone has their own way of doing things though.

I didn't realise Android Facebook also synced to the contacts. I can't see any settings on the phone for this, like the ones for HTC Facebook and other apps in Accounts and Sync.

nor did I until the other day when I realised I hadn't been signed into FB for HTC. it explains why I used to get double contacts in some lists before the factory reset though.

The FB android sync options are in the app itself.

one problem about this is a space issue for one thing.

i just got my htc last night and i'm setting it up now and this is a huge issue for me. for instance, i play games on fb and a large portion of my 'friends' are people i don't know in other countries. so now, i have about 800 contacts in my phone book that i will never contact. since my phone is brand new, space is not an issue now but it will become an issue once i start downloading apps.

i really do not want to see these 800+ people in my phone. i have them separated by groups in my fb account, there has to be a way to access my fb group from the htc sense fb app.

The FB android sync options are in the app itself.

I looked in there and only see the option for Refresh Interval and Notification options.

I have signed out of HTC Facebook and now the three Google Contacts that were linked are not any more and when you go to maually link a contact there is no longer a Facebook option, just Add contact / All contacts.

I think I might stay signed out of HTC Facebook because it seems like it's not working properly to me and is in need of an update.

Edit: Is Android Facebook on the Market different to Android Facebook that comes preinstalled on the Desire?

Exactly. Mixed in with your actual contacts, making the Phone list a pain to use. Yes you can go through the People app, but this takes more clicks and is not as convenient as using the Phone list.
