Tip - "HOW DO I" Settings with Android

How to listen to Stern on Sirius (I have a subscription)

As far as Stern goes, just go to SIRIUS|XM on Android
and you should be able to get the app for sirius. I am an XM subscriber and I use the app to listen to the Ron and Fez show on the Virus without a problem, but can't check out if stern is on for you since I don't have the best of sirius package.

This is new to me!!! I don't have that issue. Was there an app you installed that might cause this to happen? Also makisupa79 posted that they need help with Sirius Radio. Maybe you could help them out with that. That would be sweet.

Not that I know of. It just keeps launching the music player when I put in my headphones or stop the other source I am using, such as pandora or sprint tv. The worse part about it is when I'm at work and I unplug the player starts the mp3's on speaker.

You could try to clear cache and defaults on the music player and see if that helps.

Select Menu/settings/applications/Manage Applications <- takes awhile to load.

Find - Music - Select Clear Data, Cashe, and Defaults if available. Also have you rebooted the phone since this started happening?

Quick question about GMail. Sorry if this has been asked previously, but a search did not turn anything up.

With my old BlackBerry, there were options to collapse threaded email discussions as well as list the emails either by oldest or newest descending.

I cannot find either option in the Android GMail app. Any help would be appreciated.

For expanding the conversations just click on the top of the email if there are other conversations available. You will see them expand. Sorting you might try using labels. Not sure if that will work the same. Could help.

Welcome to the forums!

Thanks, but it seems they are expanded by default and clicking on the headers does not do anything. It also seems that when they are expanded, the thread is not in order of the actual emails that were sent and received. Weird.

Interesting, When I see x read messages I am able to click on them and they expand. They seem to be displayed from the first email received to the most recent.

Thank you for the response, but I guess I wasn't specific enough. Howard Stern's 2 channels are not on any Official Sirius Apps. On my iPhone, I used an app called Pocket Tunes that allowed me to stream sirius from the regular internet site (not capable on the phone alone since it uses a window media player type audio). Being able to listen to Stern at will anywhere is the ONLY feature of my iPhone I miss and I was wondering if there are any apps like Pocket Tunes on android that would allow me to listen to howchula.

Looks like you are right... I turned off the "hide unsubscribed channels" settings and still did not see the Howard channels.

I found this thread with a quick search:
http://androidforums.com/android-applications/40525-howard-stern.html

They link to an app that will give you stern... Good luck with it.. otherwise give the Virus a chance.

Thank you! I do listen to the virus replays in the afternoon and enjoy O&A...but after many years my morning routine of coffee and howard is hard to give up. Makes work fly by.

Hi,

I am no longer using the stock email or calendar app. How would I turn off notifications on those two applications?

I was also curious in terms of handcent SMS - if I have the stock Messaging & Handcent both on at the same time, are both apps merely looking at the text data or are they both getting & storing hte data in two different locations?

I envision the stock text & handcent working similar to exchange where it looks at the data in a single location & both programs are "viewers".

Is that correct?

Thanks,
Rich

here's one that i can't make any sense of (no pun). :)

i have my phone locked for privacy reasons. however, when i get a text it will appear below the unlock arc at the bottom of the screen. the problem i'm having is the only way to make that not happen is to disable displaying the incoming text AND disable the notification sound. i want to keep the sound and disable the text from displaying. how do i do this?

Is anyone having problems with mail coming in and it not showing a number by the mail icon? I get the notification but no number next to the mail icon.

Which Mail App, GMAIL? or The Stock app?

How do you all feel about the "close everything" app? Would it be better to use this over a task killer app?

No Idea, If its killing apps its probably not good....but I have never used it so not sure.

Disable notifications in the mail and messaging app.
No clue on the rest.

How do I find the SD card? DO I USE MY COMPUTE
R?

You can use your computer or you can use Astro File Manager. I am pretty sure this same forum has that information in it.

More specifically to make folders for ringtone contacts

I believe we have discussed this on the first page of this forum. Check it out people have posted exact folder creation for ringtones.

I don't believe there is a setting for that sorry.

Stock mail client when you first setup your phone. It's a gmail account as well.

That one doesn't come withe a mail count. But, there is an application on the market that will let you create a new icon that will have a number. And it comes in different styles and colors. Just go on the market and search GMail undread count, its FREE.

Well if I click the mail icon and then go in and refresh it the number will show up then. I don't know what the problem is.

The blue bubble with the number

Ok that is for the Stock email client for like pop/exchange email. So that will only show when you get email for those accounts....but not for GMail. It doesn't have an indicator. That was why I suggested the program earlier. It allows you to add an icon that looks like GMail but adds the bubble. And you can change the color.

As many have said, Many Thanks SirSlayer for taking the task to help us noobs. This is my 1st Droid, so it appears I waited for the right one. I've been tweaking the settings since tuesday, but since this is all green to me, I can't always remember what I tweaked. Case in point, I created a signature line for my text and email messages, but can't seem to find where I did that. Any ideas?

But if I hit the refresh button while in the stock email client and then exit, the blue bubble will pop showing I have mail. I have my gmail attached to the stock program as well. It's kind of weird that it was working at one point now its not refreshing as mail arrives.
