Help Interface Question

Does anyone know if the SGS will feature some proprietary software crap like the BH2 did in terms of Touchwiz? Or will it have plain old vanilla android? I've looked around but haven't found anything real 'conclusive'.

... Just got the answer. Touchwiz 3.0. Can someone point me in the direction of an explanation of how that differs from the BH2?

It's actually nothing like the Twiz2.0 that was on the BH2. If you watch the videos, it's just a new version of Samsung's custom UI for Android. Basically just like HTC has done with their Sense UI... except this appears to be faster. It also differs from Twiz2.0 in that it's centered around widgets, giving us a huge stock selection of widgets to use.

its not a hate-fest. its an honest-to-goodness statement. if you dont believe me try out touchwiz for yourself. its a horrible featurephone os that they tried to screw up android with

Again, the same can be said for Sense. It's just your opinion. No need to keep coming back and try to start a flame war. Just mention your opinion once, move along, and don't come back. Especially, since you don't answer the OP's question.

As for TouchWiz 3.0, you can find a video of it below. It looks much better.

did u even try the new touchwiz 3.0?? if u didn't i don't think u have any right to say it's crappy and they ALREADY came out with an update for the phone!!! this phone was out for almost 2 weeks now and already got an update so i think they will support this device really well (even with FROYO update!!!) so stop ur hatred toward this amazing device and stay away from this post so other people won't even bother to start an argument with u and maybe u might get an infraction for that  and i think this new touchwiz 3.0 looks way better and fresher than Sense UI (i think sense is getting old and boring now my personal opinion!!)

I also thing that this new touchwiz looks quite ok!

For starters, its prettier than sense. All the sense widgets and applications have that awful soft buttons and tabs at the bottom. Also, i can not undestand why would they still keep those buttons for widgets at tha bottom. they just use up space and are redundant.

I also like the fact that you can rearange app icons in app menu.

And that you can switch homescreens with one hand.

what i do not like is the fact thet they desiced to copy apple to the letter, especially with those squared app icons but hey..

Overall, it looks nice!

Think of it this way. When iPhone users convert to a TouchWiz 3.0 phone, then they don't have to learn much since it's similar.

Maybe not "disable", but override/replace it with another home screen application?

I think what he was asking was is it embedded deep into the OS like sense is. I know you can put a new home screen app over sense, but in many ways sense is still there. Is this the same, or is it touchwiz simply a home screen replacement app that once changed leaves nothing other than stock android. (at least that is the question I have);)

OK, I seem to have answered my own question and thought I would update this since I am sure others have wondered the same thing. This is what Engadget had to say about the software:
On the software front, you've got TouchWiz 3.0 overlaid atop Android, though if you're keen on sticking to the stock Google-flavored Eclair, the good news is that Samsung's modifications don't really get in your way. Aside from the Social Hub -- which aggregates Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and other social networks into one stream, in a similar vein to what almost everyone else is doing lately -- they're mostly in-app changes and skinning tweaks that shouldn't have a negative impact on the user experience. In fact, we were quite taken with the Galaxy S' handling of contacts. Swiping right on a contact's name automatically dials his phone number, whereas swiping left initiates a text message with him as the addressee. It's smooth, it's clever, and it's quite fun to use.

So from reading that it seems to just be another home replacement option rather than a deep integration with the OS. :):):)

Are not all custom interfaces like that? they just overlay UI and add some specific and sometimes exclusive applications and thats that. Right?

No. If you read up on sense, it is woven deeper into the OS than this appears to be. You can replace the home screen, but can't ever really be plain old vanilla android unless you root (at least that is how I understand it). Heck the incredible didn't even have some the default android OS home screen in the rom!

I just watched that vid and the TW3 isn't all that bad. Not like I expected. When on AT&T I had an Eternity and a Impression and the TW on there was kinda annoying. My daughter really likes it on her current VW Samsung Reality and did like it on her Eternity.

I really want to pick this one up if it launched for VW. But my biggest concern is still the possibility of lack of support and updates after reading all kinds of stories about past Sammy smartphones.
