Sprint EVO 4G user has a question for you Incredible owners, plan pricing for family plans.

I have a Sprint EVO right now and I'm having tons of issues with the phone. Mostly build quality issues and the battery SUCK ASS.

I'm also annoyed about the $10 dollar "evo" tax we are forced to pay per month.

My wife already has Verizon and I'm thinking about just returning my EVO and snagging an Incredible.

I currently have an everything plan, unlimited everything including data and text which is $99.99 a month plus the $10 dollar "evo tax".

I also pay $8 for insurance and $4 for Road Side Rescue. Then the normal state/fed taxes etc.

What does Verizon have that comparable and what kind of pricing are you looking at IF it's a family plan?

Whats the best way to do this?

OH! Also is tethering to say a laptop working with Easy Tether. What about the wireless tethering with root access?

I know that its $99.99 for a family plan with 700 min (talk and text). Each extra line is $9.99 and its $29.99 for unlimited data (for a line).

Does your wife have "everything unlimited" too? Does she need it? Do you need it? Do you still need it if you take into account that on most of Verizon's plans, calls to any other Verizon customer are free, so are calls between your two family lines, and you can choose 10 numbers on any network (5 for the smaller plans, I think) to/from which calls are also free.

Verizon website is REALLY slow for me today for some reason, but a quick look at amazon's reference guide seems to suggest that Family Plan with unlimited text included would be $100 for the first line and $49 for the second. You have to add $30 for each line that has a smartphone, so I'd say everything unlimited for 2 people on a family plan would be around $210 plus taxes and surcharges and fees and whatever else (usually a pretty hefty amount).

Lol hate to burst your bubble but Verizon is just as if not more expensive than Sprint but you will get better service in some areas. Also if you do go from Eco to incredible just know that you're gonna lose the front facing camera and 720p video recording. You'll gain better battery life though although its still not the greatest.

I have the Inc and a total of 5 lines in my account, my line (main line) unlimited data plan $29 + $10 for insurance, family plan has 1400 minutes unlimited text messaging in all lines, unlimited mobile to mobile plus 10 favorites or whatever they call it here. each line is an additional $9.99 (one of them i purchased insurance just in case $4.99 non smart phone)

Total bill is usually about $180~190, of course i'm getting 20% monthly discount on my bill

Which makes me wonder i may have to drop down to 700 minutes, since i rarely even get close to using 1400, i have many friends and family on Verizon.

We have the same plan (1400) and i've looked into this. The problem is that we do use almost all of the 10 "friends and family" numbers that are non-Verizon, and once you drop to 700, you only get 5 of those numbers instead of ten, so we would actually be using more minutes if we dropped down.

Catch 22 - we don't need the minutes now when we've got them, but if we gave them up, we'd suddenly find ourselves needing them, so we decided to just stay with the 1400 plan. The price difference is less than $20 a month anyway, I think.

I forgot to mention about tethering, well Verizon states its an additional fee, but you will find plenty of threads in here about using the service and not actually "paying" for it, such as PDAnet and others. If i'm not mistaken i believe the tethering fee is $29? Too much if you ask me I mean we are already paying $30 for unlimited data, I've heard that with Sprint you only pay one fee for data plan and everyone on the plan gets the data package? Not sure if thats true...remember Verizon is per line (having 5 lines with data plans can get very expensive)

It's only 450 minutes but ALL cell to cell is free, no matter WHAT network its on. You can call Sprint to Sprint, Sprint to Verizon, ATT, Metro PCS, Bob Cell Phone, Bait and Tackle, anything wireless is free. Considering I only know two people with land lines um yeah...

Also, I have a Skype account, I see Verizon works with Skype so I would probably use that to the 700 minutes would be ok. Just curious mostly.

The most important thing is unlimited data, texts, etc and I wanted to be able to tether once in a while when I'm on the road, sounds like that works so I'd be good there.

Yes, I'm sorry its free calls when its mobile to mobile within the Verizon network. If you get a new contract with Verizon its at the discounted price, which is$199, please note its cheaper if you buy it at best buy (sort of) Best buy doesn't do those annoying rebates, at Verizon i believe the phone is still $299 with a $100 debit visa (rebate) but at Best Buy its just $199 no rebates involved.

As for Skype yes it is now available in Verizon, but i haven't tried it, don't have any Skype friends but according to their site and Verizon:

Its 10 if you have 1400 min's and none if you have 700.

And if your plan has unlimited texts for your wife then no matter how many lines you add you get unlimited text. And at your calculations thats $50 (data plan 30, add a line 10, insurance 10) Plus $10 worth of taxes and fee's.

when i was with ATT my min were always 1400 + a month- with VZ Im always under 700 min. just dropped from 1400 down to 700. loose the 10 free friends but who cares.

Before switching to Verizon, look at the people you call and text on a regular basis. Do they have Verizon? If they do, I'd consider making the jump because you'd be able to call and text them for free (so you'd continue to be able to call your wife's cell phone for free). Also, how is Sprint's coverage for you? My father is on Sprint and loves the free mobile to mobile across networks, but he's abandoning ship once his contract is up because of poor coverage.

One of the reasons why I stuck with Verizon once I got my own contract (had been on a family plan with my mother) is because of the excellent coverage vs what I had seen with friends who had AT&T, Sprint, etc. Plus just about everyone I text and call is on Verizon, so I stuck with the 450 minute plan and the 500 text messages. I rarely use both but I abuse the hell out of my unlimited to other Verizon customers!

Verizon is more expensive than Sprint, but it might even out depending on how many minutes and texts you need and the fact that you'll be jumping onto a family plan.

BTW, if you look around the forums you'll see the Incredible owners complain about battery life too, although I think the Evo is worse...

You should really just walk down to a Verizon store and ask. My family plan has 700 minutes, three phones, three unlimited text, one unlimited data, and it costs 150 per month. Insurance was $70 a year through our local V store. Seriously though, go ask at the store... you'll have a normal sized phone, 7gb more internal storage, and probably save some money with a family plan.

Boost Mobile has two different network types: iDen and CDMA. Both are very small coverage areas. The iDen is a different technology so it will be limited just because of that. The CDMA is a prepaid system and therefore it has no roaming agreement coverage and limited because of that. If the service areas for those work for you, great, switch. If not you pay more and stick with what you have. Either way that is why the big difference in cost.

The OP. Your best bet is always to talk with the carrier you are interested in. Every person here that has service will have a different bill (some with corporate discounts, some with taxes that are double what your area could be). They will also be able to show you how coverage will be in your needed locations.

This is exactly what we have except only 1 data plan and 1 with insurance, the other 2 lines are dumb phones and we pay $144 a month after taxes and 22% discount.

Well I have four lines, two with a data plan and two without. All have unlimited texting and we have 700 minutes outside of verizon. It costs 150 per month and we have yet tohave ANY overage charges for two years (its always different for each group...) Realistically if most of your friends are on verizon you dont really need unlimited minutes. Before switching i would check how many minutes you use on sprint and then decide on a verizon plan.
