Moment vs Hero post 2.1

So after both of these phones have recieved what may be their final official software update which one comes on top now? I ask because di dont want the EVO but i do want one of these phones.

I have the Hero stock 2.1, rooted, bloatware removed. My son has the Moment with 2.1 and Joey's kernel, bloatware removed. So far, the Hero wins by far.

The phones are pretty much equal, except where the Moment is better in most aspects.

No seriously, both are good phones. Neither is "by far" better than the other. Unless we are counting personal opinions, then if someone owns a Hero (considering this is a Moment forum), they will say something typical such as "My son has the Moment with 2.1 and Joey's kernel, bloatware removed. So far, the Hero wins by far." Where in they try to convince the reader that they are fairly comparing the two products, and one of the products is actually improved over the stock version, yet their own personal preference is still better.

They both run Android, in the end do you prefer a physical keyboard or smaller size? This is the only real LARGE difference between the two.

I'd say hero if you don't care about the keyboard for the following reason.

Hero can run games better at a decent frame rate
Larger community developing/hacking the hero
and the killer for me is that the hero has multi touch.

Samsung moment = no multi touch.

Personally i couldn't live without a keyboard so i chose the moment plus the moment was only 10$ when i bought it so I have no regrets or complaints. More and more i find myself using the onscreen keyboard though so my next phone may just be a dedicated touch screen with multi touch.

How do you get that Hero runs games better at better frame rates? I had a Hero and the Moment runs games MUCH better than the Hero did. And it only makes sense. Better (FASTER) processor, better screen, no SENSE UI running in the background. Try tunning SNES Emulator on Hero then do it on Moment, Huge difference.

We have a decent sized community here for the Moment as far as Hacking/ Dev goes. At first out community was pretty much tiny, now it is putting out roms faster than the Hero community, correct me if I am wrong, but we had working 2.1 well before Hero?

Meh... Multi-touch is ok, though I can say I get along just fine without it. Double tapping seems to be just as fast as pinch to zoom. I suppose lacking it could make playing some games much more laborious though.

After installing the 2.1 update on the Moment, the phone got more laggy... however, when I isntalled the 2.1 on the Hero, the phone got more responsive.

P.S. I also installed PandaHero on my momment and it got more responsive.. wtf? Moment is def a Hero wannabe! xD

Your Moment got more responsive when you isntalled 2.1 on a Hero? That's fng amazing!

P.S. I wonder what PandaMoment would do to a Herro?

Here is the hero running a 3d benchmark

if you find any evidence of a moment doing the same let me know...
As previously stated I own and love the Moment, but it definately was not made for gaming and thats why second generation ipod touches would blow it out of the water.

Just because you found a video of a Hero doing something, doesn't mean the Moment can't. Lack of evidence does not prove anything, now if you had a video of the Moment struggling with the same benchmark, then you could claim this. Since when was the Hero "made for gaming" last I checked it was just another phone? And what the hell does the iPod touch have anything to do with the Moment?

Even if you are not meaning to, you are coming off as a troll.

Ha, exactly. This is the equivalent of saying: "I am 6ft tall and therefore taller than the other guy."

Umm... how tall is the other guy?

I don't really care which phone is better... but if you're going to try to prove it, at least do it right. I'd honestly love to see a fair benchmark incorporating BOTH phones.

I have both. I used the Moment for 6 months and I am so into Android technology, I wanted my teenager to have one. I ordered the Hero because I didn't think my teenager would care if it had a keyboard and it was cool looking and stylish. My son decided he wanted the physical keyboard, so I gave him my Moment and I adopted the stylish Hero.

The Hero is smaller and easier to fit into a pocket or purse. I prefer the calendaring options on the HERO and the battery lasts a few hours longer during the day. I'm in a weak reception area at work, so the HERO picks up a signal better.

After a month, I"m missing my Moment. The keypad on the Moment (no matter how bad they say it is) makes typing in addresses, responding to messages so much faster. I can do it with a HERO, but since there's no physical keyboard it takes longer. I've been lost, flipped open my Moment and typed and had directions, quickly.

Call quality is life like on the Moment. Call quality is good on the HERO, but it's better on the Moment.

The Moment is much faster, but I'm OK with speed of HERO. I can download 5 or more items, simultaneously, with the Moment and it zips thorugh with ease. With HERO I try not to do more than 2 or 3. This isn't too big of a deal for me, because once something is downloaded I'm done.

Sense UI - I mean it's nice, but... you have to decide if you really have to have this. It's not a must have for me.

Android 2.1 breathes new life into Moment. Gives it a new personality. It is as if the 2.1 system is maximizing use of faster processor on Moment.

My daughter is due for her Android in a week. I may give her my HERO (she likes the style) and go back to the Moment or I may stick with the smaller footprint of the HERO.... I don't know.

Moment is heavier. Screen is nicer for viewing videos and such. THe Moment will make phatom phone calls about once in 5 days. This is annoying, but not a deal breaker for me.

It depends on your preference and how you expect to use your phone.

I would lean towards the Moment for the keyboard, AMOLED display and faster processor.
