i tried installing a themed news and weather widget to system/app and it's not working properly. it's not showing up on the phone under widgets or in the app launcher. it's not showing up in root explorer in system/app even though it said it was pasted there. it shows up in applications in the settings menu but force closes when clicked on. i also can't install it in data now either. so right now the app is kind of in limbo.

anybody have an idea on how to fix this?

Getting a themed version of the widget

yup, once you go into an app and change something the apk is no longer signed, so it won't install using normal means. if you copy and paste it to system/app manually it would work on the Moto Droid. i guess we either don't have proper permissions yet or it's just not going to work the same on this phone. it's not a huge deal, but i've always wanted a smoked glass news and weather widget.

Just wondering whats the benefit of doing that ?

Sorry for waking up an old thread, but thought it was worth it to add in that one good reason to install things into the /system/app folder, is because /system and /data are on separate storage partitions and so when you have a ton of apps installed into /data and finally run out of space, you can still fit a bunch more apps onto the /system partition. Go into terminal client (I use Better SSH Terminal in case it matters) and do the df command and it will show you a percentage of space left of your partitions (/system and /data). I usually fill up the /system partition right up to around 95% with apps that I want to be more permanent, and then that leaves more space on /data for apps you might be always changing around all the time.
