HTC Desire and Yahoo Mail

I've been conducting a non scientific experiment today. I have my yahoo mail account set up using POP on the HTC app and IMAP on the K-9 app. I also have all my emails automatically forwarded to my googlemail account and push through using the phone's built in app for that.

It's like a 3 way race to see which arrives first. Unfortunately there are no conclusive results yet as all three methods have 'won' for some emails.

I've just set up my yahoo mail account using IMAP settings and the K-9 email app. What a vast improvement to the HTC and POP arrangements I was using before.

I can now view all my folders and only have to delete messages once :) It's also push

Would it be possible to share the settings for K-9 mail on HTC desire you've used. I've been trying to set this up and so for failed.

Also, are you a Plus subscriber, and have you had to change your setting to Asia or something similar?

Thank you.

If you use IMAP, changes made on your handset will replicate to your web mail. However as the handset isn't a live copy of your mailbox (its cached) unlike gmail app, changes in webmail probably wont replicate to your handset. Unless maybe if you use a yahoo app

Well, if it's IMAP protocol, it should all look the same. Only difference may stem from frequency of IMAP synchronisation. Unfortunately there isn't a Yahoo app, but if only we could get IMAP protocol to work on HTC Desire as snowmobile indicates, then this would bypass the need for an official Yahoo app like the iphone has.

-very simple solution for yahoo mail on desire.
-go to mail option of yahoo account by using your pc.
-click on account information
-enter your password
-then go to account setting option
-Set language, site, and time zone
-Current setting:Yahoo! Asia, Europe/Paris or western europe
-go back to mail option and click on pop and forwarding option. then
-check on this optionAllow your Yahoo! Mail to be POPed http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/context/context-06.htmland click save changed above.
-take your phone and enter e-mail address and password. then next, setting will be done itself.
-THERE IS NO need to change pop into IMAP.

Thank you for your comment. You are correct that this works for POP access. If you're yahoo mail plus user, you don't even have to change nationality, as you have the POP option in your mail options. I can also confirm this works on the HTC Desire.

However, IMAP has one big advantage over POP: the ability to synchronise your Inbox and other folders, including sent emails, so you can keep an accurate record of all emails sent, and also don't have to delete messages twice. That's why I'm keen to see if IMAP access can be accessed on this otherwise brilliant phone.

These are the settings I used :

INCOMING SERVER: imap-ssl.mail.yahoo.com
SECURITY TYPE: SSL
SERVER PORT: 993

OUTGOING SERVER: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
SECURITY TYPE: SSL
SERVER PORT: 465

I have a standard uk yahoo account and I haven't changed the settings to Asia or anything like that.
