Need help putting the Vanilla Lock screen on the Hero

I was looking through these instructions here:

But I am still a little new at this and am confused as to how to just put the vanilla lock screen on. The Phone is rooted and running DC 2.08

I just flashed Fresh 2.1.2 on my hero and was thinking about doing this as well. The fixes to vanilla lockscreen is mentioned in the installation notes here Download: Fresh Rom 2.1.2 Geek For Me – Android CDMA Sprint Hero it say something like you must flash the zip file as an update.zip in recovery.

Now i am new to flashing... but it sounds like there is a way to update the rom (ie: fresh 2.1.2) with one of these fixes. But there is no directions about this so i have not clue at this point.

Ok i got the update on my phone here is what you do:
Just in case you dont like the new lockscreen i would suggest making a nandroid backup Frist.

Pick/download the update you want to install.
Put in on your sdcard.
Power off phone.
Boot to recovery (hold down home then power button).
Scroll down to "Flash zip from sdcard".
Select the update zip then home key to confirm.
Once its complete reboot and your done... the reboot will be a long one so be patient.

So I guess the only way is to install a custom ROM?

I would like a better lockscreen, but I do like having the option to have different wallpapers for lock and homescreen, as well as the music player showing up in my lockscreen.

My real issue is I HATE the way you can unlock the phone by pressing menu twice...I am ALWAYS unlocking it in my pocket and pressing shit, calling people, even tried to d/l something from the market.

I used the swipe the dots but that is a pain in the ass...

Well fixes you dl from the two links above are just "Updates" to roms.

The hero I am trying to put the Vanilla lock screen on is not running fresh but rather DamageControl's 2.08. It has the regular HTC lock screen. Is it even possible to put the vanilla lock screen on it?

If the ROM is deoxed, then it may be possible. I don't believe version .08 is, but I think .09 is.

After reading the comments, I'm not sure I want to go through it cause it seems like its gonna be a little bit of a hassle. Some are reporting issues and feel that 2.09.1 isn't much better than 2.08.

I do want to know if you can theme on 2.08 though... Probably not because it hasn't been deoxed?

You could do some theming, but as far as lockscreen and many other edits, it can't be done until the ROM is deoxded.

I hate to bother you again, but would you mind linking me to where I can theme DamageControl 2.08? All the themes I saw required flashing brand new roms. Thanks for your help

I don't have the link to that one. It was in the thread that I have already linked. It was updated from 2.08 to 2.09.1. If someone has the old download link, that may work for you. I don't have it.
