Can someone give me some information as to rather JAVA is suppoed to work on the EVO right now? I can see in the settings that it is set up to use, but when I go to sites that require it, the sites always tell me that JAVA is required. So, is JAVA supported on the Android OS or isn't it? Maybe it's going to be revealed in the new update coming out soon, or something like that? Thanks for any info.

Anybody PLEASE? Some info would be nice.

Maybe if you could provide some examples of sites youre trying to run it would be easier for someone to troubleshoot your issue for you if they can replicate your problem

Good Idea, thanks.

Well, it's pretty much any site that requires JAVA, such as Doppler Radar National Mosaic - NOAA's National Weather Service

That site, and others, that require java to be able to ANIMATE the radar don't work on my EVO.

NOAA - National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Fox Chicago Weather | Chicago Weather Radar | Fox News Chicago
Hmm, that last one above actually worked. So maybe it's just the way the site is set up, don't know. Anyone care to comment on whether it's just the site setup or something of that nature? Why would some work and not others. Maybe the one that does work, don't require JAVA. Comments?

I can view all three of those sites.
The two that show the radar do and loop as expected.

Thanks for the reply. So when you purchased your EVO and took it home and set it up, did you download a JAVA file yourself and set it up, or was it already installed? My browser is already setup to use JAVA, but as I said, when I go to those sites, except for the one I metioned already works, they tell me that I need JAVA installed in order to view them. Where is it that I'm supposed to download JAVA for the Android platform? When I go to the regular JAVA site and look at the platforms that JAVA is available for, Android is NOT listed.

Thanks for any more assist.

What browser are you using? No, you don't need to install everything. Phone comes with it, part of Android.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using the stock browser that came pre-installed on the EVO (not sure of the name of it as it just lists as Internet in the Applications list). I guess it might be Chrome, not sure. You would probably no better than me. :) At any rate, the stock browser. What browser would you suggest I use?

Stock browser honestly ain't bad on the EVO compared to other androids. But personally I like dolphin hd.

Thanks for the reply. I installed dolphin hd and went to those same sites, and I still cannot get them to animate and I still receive messages that "JAVA IS REQUIRED" to view this content. Does anyone think I need to go and download JAVA? Tell me where to go to download it for the Android platform.

Ok on the website are you supposed to see animation of the radar or just a pic? I checked it out via dolphin and I didn't see any animations either, only still pics. Are you at least seeing that?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I can go to the sites and see the still images of the radar, but no animations (looping for 1 hr for example). I'm sure that the animations is what is making it mandatory for JAVA to be installed, as whenever I choose to loop it (animate it), that is when I get the message JAVA is required to view this data (or something very similar to that).
