Hey everyone,

I am using the standard gmail app that comes with the motorola droid. However password authentication is only required the first time the application is launched. This means anyone who picks up your phone can see your email with one touch.

Is there a way to require password authentication each time the application is launched?

Password authentication is so that you can use the phone at all, period. You have to have a google account to use an android phone. Without password authentication built in you would not have access to autosync, your contacts, calendar, and Gmail would not be updated or even accessible.

My advice is to set up a pattern on the lock screen and change it frequently.

I really am happy with my Droid but I agree with you on this. I hate having the connection to my accounts open all the time. It would be nice if the phone was set up with the option to have software like Gmail Notifier that I use on my PC. When notified that mail is waiting, you go to Gmail and enter your screen name and password.

I got round this by creating a second Google user specifically for the phone and added it via the settings. I access my real everyday Google email account via the browser using the same URL that I use in my desktop browser:-

https://mail.google.com/mail/?hl=en&shva=1#inbox

I have to explicitly log on with both my Google username and password (and explicitly log out), but now I'm in charge, and not the phone. Once I've logged out, if anyone steals my phone, they can't see my emails.

Hope that helps
