Root SDK Installed?

OK, so I've got the SDK installed... but, how in the friggin world do I know if it is working properly?!

Connect your phone via USB to your PC, launch a DOS window (Command Prompt), change to your SDK install's tools directory (i.e., "cd c:\android-sdk-whatever\tools"), and enter "adb shell"...if you get a "$" or "#", its working.

P.S. if you do get either of the above prompts, enter "exit" to get out of the adb shell.

or if you did your path correctly, you should be able to just plug in your phone (with usb debugging ON and set to CHARGE ONLY) and type in 'adb shell' in command prompt, and see the # if rooted.

how do you tell what path your sdk is in? I don't know exactly what to type in the command prompt

Not trying to see if I'm rooted, yet... just need to know if the SDK is working.

I guess it's not, device not recognized and other driver isues. Frigging Windows 7.

Should have known there was gonna be a problem when it took all damn day just to load the SDK.

Your SDK path is where ever you installed / extracted the SDK to (i.e., the directory path).

Most of the confusion folks have been having with the SDK install is because its getting installed / extracted either in their downloads directory or somewhere in their MyDocuments folder (or even on their desktop). This does make it somewhat tough to enter the full directory path in the DOS / Command Prompt .

You should be able to locate the directory of your SDK's tools directory by doing a search of your C:\ drive in Windows Explorers for adb.exe.

a. open up Windows Explorer

b. find your C:\ drive under "Computer" in the left-hand side under Folders

c. click on "Local Disk (C" to set your search focus

d. identify the Search field in Windows Explorer (top right of the window)

e. enter "adb.exe" in the search field and press the enter key

f. let the search do its thing, it will tell you which folder(s) it finds "adb.exe" in under the "Folder" column (that's the ticket! )

Now you should know which folder the SDK is installed in. Cheers!

Oh, I knew where to find it, the problem is getting the SDK Setup.exe to run.

Just get an error message that reads -
"Failed to execute tools\android.bat:
The system cannot find the file specified."

The frustrating part is, I had it set up before but it kept freezing when downloading the packages. Then said that packages were not compatible. Now I can't even get to the part to tell it to force https.

Oh, I knew where to find it, the problem is getting the SDK Setup.exe to run.

Just get an error message that reads -

Actually installing the SDK should be pretty straightforward...perhaps your SDK download was incomplete? Or, can you try the first/relevant parts of the setup as shown here: How to install Android SDK and play with Android 2.0 in the emulator – Android and Me

Thank you for your time with this. Unfortunately, I work two jobs and won't have oppurtunity to play with any of this until next Monday. Oh well, I was really interested in A2SD and OC but maybe it's just more prudent for me to wait until my NE2 upgrade is eligible (Gingerbread and LTE should be available by then anyhow, so maybe my needs will be fulfilled).
