Is Googlemail Same As Gmail For Sync etc

Hi all .... first post :)

Just waiting for my Hero (from Orange in the UK) to arrive today so doing some preparatory work. Simple question .........

All the sync info/advice/applications talk of using a Gmail account. Fine, no probs with that, I can set one up.

However, in the UK we can only have GoogleMail accounts (AFAIK ... .unless you know different).

Can I create a myname @ googlemail.co.uk account and sync to that in the same ways that are so widely described for Gmail?

The rerason I ask is that some sync apps (e.g. CompanionLink) already use the term @ gmail.com hardwired into the set-up dialog boxes.

TVM, Dave B.

I *believe* there were issues here in the UK when gmail came over here at first
Yup .... at the start of Gmail if you were quick and got someone to invite you then UK users could get a Gmail account. However IIRC there was some debate/objection to Google using the Gmail name in the UK so they changed it to Googlemail.

Thanks for the info .... the we beastie has arrived and is on charge. Whoohoo! :)

Sorry for grave digging, but my question is spot on for this thread.

I was just recommended the "Listen" podcast app from Google, but it insists on requiring a "@gmail.com" address. I am using Android with a "Google Apps" address (for my own domain), and that doesn't work. So I went to gmail.com and registered a new address, which was a "@googlemail.com" address. ...well, that's not good enough, either! :(

So my question is:
How do I obtain a genuine "@gmail.com" address?
