Background tasks?

Hi,

I have just installed a task manager which tells me about all the programs/tasks that are "booted up" when I turn the phone on. A lot of these programs/tasks (PEEP, STOCK etc) I do not need or ever intend to use. As they are HTC installed, there doesn't seem to be a way to uninstall them. They are obviously using up RAM and battery power that could be best saved

Is there any way, either through the installed software or a recommended app, to stop these programs/tasks on start-up rather than having to manually stop these each time I boot up the phone?

Cheers

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry for my ignorance but I have only just had the phone from Orange so do not know if it is "rooted" or not.

If it isn't, how do I do it? If this is a major operation, can anyone else help me without the need to root it?

Also, my firmware states 1.5 but have read forums saying that 2.0 is the most up to date. When I go to the Orange website, apparently, 1.5 is the most up to date.

Rooting is a process done by the user, so it won't already be rooted. I haven't done it myself, but there are tutorials about.

The latest firmware availible for the HEro at the moment is 1.5. The Hero will be getting 2.0 at somepoint in the not too distant futrue but for now, the latest version of Android is 1.5. You may not have the latest firmware however, what are the first 3 digits of your build number?
