Cancel my order for the Incredible and wait for Moto X instead?

I placed an order for the Incredible a couple weeks ago, and it should arrive sometime next week. I was really psyched to get the phone until I found out that the Motorola Xtreme (or shadow) is coming out in July (or so I have read).

I really like the UI of the incredible, and believe the phone will fit my needs very well. I will primarily use the incredible for apps, pictures, and video. My only hang-up is that I dont really want to buy the incredible if it will be surpassed by the Moto X a few weeks after I get my incredible. Does this sound legitimate? Is the Moto X going to be that much better than the incredible?

I dont love the way the Moto X looks (at least from the pictures I have seen), and I also do not really want a huge phone either. Verizon told me I can still cancel my order without a penalty, but Im not sure if I would be happier with the Moto X. What should I do?

It is more of a personal preference. No phone remains on top long as they are constantly producing new phones, although the incredible is an excellent phone and will still remain as one of the top smart phones even after the moto x. It all depends on if you feel the need for a 4.3 inch screen because they both will be fast and only get faster once 2.2 comes out

Thanks, guys, for all the advice; I have found it to be very helpful. One thing I wonder, though, is what the appeal of a gargantuan screen is. If the primary function of the Moto X is for it to be a phone, then wouldnt Motorola be turning off potential consumers by creating something that is difficult to carry in pockets? I know that smartphones have many functions, but I question whether Motorola is turning off more customers with the screen than they are attracting.

You nailed it. Thats exactly what they are doing. It reminds me of when I picked up my first PSP and a couple of really cool UMD movies... but guess what, that sucker was way too big to tote anywhere so I never used it. Just sat in the closet or on the coffee table.

They have got to draw the line somewhere and decide when they are crossing the line and making these portable devices a lot less portable.

Let me ask you a question: Will you cancel the MOTO X and wait for (the next Android Superphone) instead?

I know what your trying to say, but also as it was stated somewhere else (of course cant remember exactly where ) that the people who ordered the inc after it was released are sort of in a special class. since weve had to wait soo long ( personally its prolly going to be ~month for me ) that other phones out their are coming out before we even get ours, when you are on a waiting list you expect that the wait is worth it and that your getting the best, but for us, once we get our phones something is already out that is considered superior.. its a tad disheartening to wait knowing something better will be dropping before we even get our hands on the phone...
if the op just got a phone and was thinking of immediately upgrading it would be a bit silly, but he hasn't even gotten a chance to enjoy it and its already technically outdated. just my .02 :p

I wouldn't get the moto droid x unless it had a front facing camera or 4g if you are interested in that. The processors are basically the same. Cameras are basically the same except the moto has 720p recording, but 720p recording on a camera phone is a joke anyway. Battery life will be about the same. The moto has a 1500 battery vs the incredible's 1350. This means battery life will actually be about the same since the moto's screen is bigger and is LCD which uses more energy versus the incredible's LED screen. This also means the moto droid x will perform better in direct sunlight, but the LED on the droid inc will look better in low light.

The only things to really think about are if the larger screen will be a good thing or in fact be too large and make it less pocketable, or if u will prefer the htc sense vs moto blur.

I feel like every 3g smartphone needs to have a front facing camera now. with the evo 4g and iphone 4 having it, i think within a few months or by next year, front facing cameras will be a standard.

I would take the Incredible for the 30 days trial period and see how it goes. Then you can decide what to do at the end of the trail. The Moto X may or may not actually be released on time, you may see reviews you like or don't like, etc.

I think it is funny that everyone thinks it is "huge". These are seem small to me, but then I am waiting for the Dell Streak to make it to the US :D

its already technically outdated

Nice, the Moto X is so much better than the Inc that it's making it outdated? That's cool to hear. I'm glad technology progresses at such a fast rate. I can't wait for all the cool stuff that it will do that the Inc won't! Geeze at this rate we'll be riding around in spaceships by Q4!

EDIT: I do understand that it must be frustrating to see new phones come out while you're still waiting for yours in the mail. It's actually a good thing that new phones are coming out. If you want a bigger screen or a slide-out keyboard then it looks like you'll have those options soon. You should be saying 'oh yeah! I'm so happy shipping took so long! now I can get the 4.3" screen I really wanted!'.

Go for the DroidX but you'll have to have a purse to be able to carry it ;)

I think this is one of the advantages of being a woman ;)

Even then, while I use a purse to carry my phone (because seriously, women's jeans do NOT have enough pocket space for these phones and I don't want to fry my ovaries anyway) a big phone like the X or the Evo would be cumbersome.

I have small hands. The Incredible is the right size for me, and I know something bigger would probably hurt my hands if I were to hold it on a regular basis.

I don't really get the trend of these super huge smartphones  it's going to either be an issue of using them or finding a way to carry them around.

i thought the inc cpu was a 65 nm one, versus the x's 45nm one. That alone should give the x more battery life.

Great point about the amoled display versus the lcd in darkness. Lcds become washed out when you lower backlight.

I still think the inc is a great phone. i just think the x is the better phone now.

I'm gonna try and swap my Incredible for a Droid Extreme. The grounding issue is starting to bother me. Damn it people, why did someone have to bring it up. It was fine and now,I notice it so it is starting to annoy me. It is like an annoying scratch on a brand new car you just bought. It is not a big deal but when you notice it in front of you, it annoys the hell out of you.

I'll wait till it is release and bring my DINC into the Verizon store and raise some ruckus. If they can't fix it, they'll have to exchange it and I prefer to exchange it for the Droid Extreme.

The Droid X is a lot more powerful than the Incredible:

http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/3240/devicer.png

See where it says Shadow MB810? That's the Droid X running Android 2.1.

i think the processor speed is irrelevant. either processor the snapdragon or the one in the droid x are both fast, but yes the droid x's is probably marginally faster. From what i heard, and from these test result obviously. Improvements made in android 2.2 and the improvements that will come in the future will be more important than the processor speed.

And for those asking, not the droid x doesn't have a front facing camera.

When it comes down to the bottom line. the only difference between the droid x and droid inc besides their look is that the droid x's screen is bigger which can be seen as a advantage, but the overall size could be seen as a disadvantage. The LCD could be seen as an advantage for better performance in direct sunlight, but a disadvantage because it will consume the battery faster and won't look as good as a LED screen in low light. The battery issue is equalized by the droid x having a better battery. Lastly, as i said in my other post is motoblur vs htc sense.

Point is that besides the screen type, screen and phone size, and the custom interface, the differences between the phones will be so minimal that it won't matter and any debate over it is just bogus.
