Already had Gmail account

In the store I was asked if I had a GMail account, I thought I did, but wasn't sure so I created a new one. Well it turns out that I DID have an existing gmail account and want to use that one (the email address is the same as my yahoo prefix and it would be an easier transition for everyone).

How do I now link my Droid phone to my pre-existing gmail? Do I have to reset it to factory settings and then start fresh?

Thanks in advance.

There's no way for me to test this without risking deleting my current setup, but if you go into Settings -> Accounts & Sync you should see the gmail account you set up. Click on that and then at the bottom of the screen there should be an option to Remove Account. You could try that and then add in the gmail account that you would like to have sync.

Let us know how it goes.

I think I am going to do it...the only thing I have on this phone so far that will be significant to re-add will be the contacts. I can always go to the verizon store to get them done quickly or I can do them manually I suppose...or I can try to save them to my SD card. Is there a way to do that?

If I can figure that out, I will reset the phone and start fresh with the gmail account that I want to use.

Okay I did it. I exported my contacts to my SD card and reset the phone (in the privacy tab).

The phone rebooted and a screen came up that said it had to be reactivated, etc. I just followed the directions and voila! A totally clear phone with the gmail account that I wanted attached to it.

The issue now is that I went to add my Y! email to it and it is saying that it is unable to establish a connection to the server. When I had my phone set up the first time I linked my Y! account no problem.

Oh well, one problem solved another one created!

I have also noticed that the contact list in my gmai has a fraction of the contacts that I imported to my phone. I wonder if they will sync up and will eventually match. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

edit: re: Y!

I got it all set up using these settings in this thread from another forum:
