So here's the latest response from HTC on the 30fps cap issue.

Now I can get over the build quality issues (which is ridiculous), but this whole lagging, FPS capping thing is literally pissing me off.

Now I can accept Google's limitations here as the OS is new and they are striving for 60fps, but HTC is artificially limiting their EVOs by choice.

The EVO has a snapdragon! It shouldn't get less FPS than a Hero. I'm seriously going to chuck my EVO into a river. I think people should be more upset about this. The iPhone came out in frickin 2007! Why can't HTC make a better phone?

Shame on you HTC! Shame on you for releasing a hot phone on one of the best networks, then crippling it. It could of been a match made in heaven, but yet again customers are still left waiting.

I vow to never buy another HTC device again.

You're blocking - don't be afraid to open up about your feelings! (Not making fun of you - just trying to lighten an unhappy situation, because that always helps me, personally.)

The Evo seems to be an exercise in rapid integration. Here are a few sample points:

1. They've added an HD camcorder ability.
- People are already having HDMI quality issues, per this forum.

2. They got to market with a more power-thirsty LCD vs. AMOLED screen.
- People are having battery issues. (The bigger the OLED screen, the lower the manufacturing yield, the higher the price.)

So - I'm not surprised that you're pissed off, but new integration efforts usually take time to work out kinks.

Was the Evo rushed to market? Yeah - maybe, to beat the new iPhone and steal a little thunder - or to beat the new Moto, or whatever.

But it made it to the market just in time for me.

I'm not sure why anyone would get mad at this. That reply was standard corporate wording meaning "we don't really know when we'll have it running at 60fps but for now we're gonna leave it at 30 so that everything will function correctly." It doesn't mean they won't take off that cap, and it IS something that can be done with an OTA firmware update, so why worry about it. When 2.2 comes out, all will be well, and besides, a smooth 30fps is not a bad thing.....

I had a backordered EVO and canceled the order yesterday due to all the issues that seem to be coming up. I even had one in my hands at walmart and could not walk out of the store with it because sprint had their systems down and I would have had to wait at least 30 minutes to get the transaction completed. There is no excuse for HTC to gimp a phone this powerful, unless they are admitting to a design flaw. Why would anyone buy this phone, if, in the end, an iphone 3GS is going to perform better >? It's just heartbreaking.

Apparently the Incredible is unaffected by this issue. If that's the case, this is why the Incredible seems faster.

Rooting does not fix it, Froyo doesn't fix it. As of right now there's no fix for it.

HTC pulled this same stunt with the HTC Tilt and did nothing, this is why I'm angry about it. If the EVO never gets fixed, don't be surprised about it.

Good for you, I would not buy the EVO either if I would of known all of its issues. It had the potential to be the best phone ever and HTC screwed up. Surprisingly Sprint wasn't the one who gimped the phone.

The thing is though, HTC knows it's an issue but wanted to get this out before the iphone 4. I don't see them having 2 identical platformed phones in the incredible and the evo only to have one limited to 30fps for no good reason. My theory is they needed it to do that for stability to begin with, and when they release the 2.2 update, they'll also deal with the 30fps issue. Not that froyo alone will fix it, but their 2.2 build of froyo probably will.

Maybe they won't, but the reply sounds like a standard one that was put together so that when people ask about it they will have something to reply with. If they don't, it doesn't seem to be effecting me too much in how I use my evo, and if they do then great. It's not a hardware problem, it's software, and software can be fixed.

People come here to complain. End of story. You will always see a lot of the "bad" when coming to an online community. No device is perfect.

I've said it before in another thread, for gaming the Evo has performed very well for me, I play Let's Golf (3D) and Homerun Derby (3D), both games I would expect to be impacted by this cap, my point is games seem to be working well enough. As for lag with scrolling, opening apps etc., is that really a FPS issue? Both "issues" do not seem apparent to me, but I haven't used the Incredible side by side, which seems like the only reason people are complaining. I agree that it's heartbreaking to have such a powerful phone be crippled, but at the same time I just don't see the big deal if while using your phone you don't notice significant problems. There is one game that I did experience lag, it's called toonwarz, but if you read the comments everyone is experience lag, N1, Droid, Moment etc.

In the comparisons between the Iphone and the Nexus, yes, the FPS number was lower on the Nexus, but I didn't see any difference in gameplay. It seems to me I'd be able to play that pretend fighter game just fine without knowing the FPS was limited.

And as far as the drawing app, is it possible that the app lags but not the phone?

MOST of the people who have an EVO say it's very fast and aren't complaining about it being slow...

I like Sprint, I like Google, I now hate HTC.

They're all about the dollar bill, so there's always some evil to fight.

FWIW - I've found performance improvements (memory, battery, and my piece of mind) by using Startup Cleaner 2.0 by Bright Wallace to avoid loading Sprint apps that I couldn't care less about.

There's a case of Sprint exploiting the Google architecture to have those shown as system apps and not as user-level apps (which, they are).

I'm just saying, depending upon one's priorities, there's plenty of dislike to go around.

FWIW, I came from a Samsung Moment (chosen because it seemed most-stock Android on Sprint) - and I loved that - except, with the larger memory, larger screen, front-facing camera (I skype videocon from my phone now!), and 7 spaces to load goodies into for quick access as opposed to 3 on the moment, I like the Evo better.

I'm going to put on blinkers and just presume that any nits on the Evo will be fixed with updates.

I've never really like any phone when I first got it - but I've ALWAYS managed to always compare my newer, more-capable one poorly with respect to my previous one. Eventually, I get over it.

By the way - borrowed an iPhone for 4 days, end of May, while deciding whether or not to stay Android.

All I can say is that after that, I'm way happy with my Evo - and I use Apples everywhere else and love OS X, if that helps calibrate my opinion.

EDIT and PS - This is by no means an argument against MrX8503 - we all have an absolute right to our judgements, pro or con. This is simply intended as a counterpoint of view.

I reserve the right to be fully pissed at HTC over something else tomorrow.

By removing the Sprint apps and social networking cruft I don't use at startup, my memory at startup went from about 20% free to 48% free - and my phone got a whole lot more stable.
