Mine seem pretty snug/solid.
You mentioned it was a refurbished phone. Did you previously have a new Eris before? Do you recall the volume keys on that one? Just to clarify, mine are tight to the phone, but enough give to depress them.
I think I would go back and ask to see another phone, just to at least determine what is normal. Kind difficult to describe the keys on my phone. Seems like it's not super critical part of the phone, but just like that...you'll need them for something. Perhaps you'll get some more input from the forum members that may have had similar experiences.
Thanks, I am hoping some others will chime in.
I am just worried if I exchange this one, I might
end up with a much worse problem.
Mine were loose as all hell too. I went to the VZW store and got a new battery cover (entire back) as the keys are actually part of the back... works like a charm.
Mine also seem pretty snug, Im getting my refurb in the mail tomorrow and hope its as solid as mine is now.
This is a little off topic but you said its a refurb?? Anyway you could tell me what bootloader came with it. Im hoping all of the refurbs aren't coming with 1.49 as im wanting root pretty bad.
Not sure where to find that. It came with the older Android OS on it,
and I had to update it to 2.1
I bet you could find 100 people who would kill to have your phone right now, despite a loose volume rocker (the volume rocker is part of the back cover btw, which can easily and inexpensively be replaced)
if you had to use the OTA update to 2.1 that means you have a phone that is still capable of being rooted.......... a very rare item for refurbs or new phones anymore.......
if it bothers you that much Im sure you could find someone who would gladly trade you their perfectly functioning phone for yours.......if you decide to take it back to VZW for exchange, chances are good youll be exchanging away any chance for ROOT
Thats crazy they are sending you a new phone considering its the battery cover. Goodluck with the refurb.
take the back cover off........ youll notice there are no longer keys on the phone....... its a toggle on the cover that presses into the phone......
you can buy new battery covers for $10-$20 depending on where, if it bothers you that much........
IMO its worth the price to know I have a rootable phone
edit: in case you didnt know........ unless you root your phone then you will not be able to use some features that its capable of........ such as true hands free dialing, a2sd (ability to install apps on the SD card), wifi tethering, and some others
Usually when you get a refurb they send it without a battery or back cover.. So im curious to how this is going to turn out for you.
You would think these trained techs would know these things about the phone. lol
Haha i had to argue with the rep whos sending my refurb about the silent call issue. I actually had to pretend i couldnt hear her when she called my phone to test it before they would do anything what so ever.
