I've just sent my Hero back again This will be the 3rd time that they've had my phone back in little under a year!

1st fault, phone arrived but couldn't get past white boot screen - I suspect they hadn't tested it and sent me a bricked handset :)

2nd fault, usb connection completely failed. Tried all the steps, they told me too send it back.. suspect they sent me a reconned phone back out

3rd fault, wifi has been basically non-existant on the handset, can stand next to the access point and get poor to no signal.. tried on several APs

Wonder if they'll send me a Nexus one to appologise :) lol

Damn you HTC - and the worse thing is, the cat calls from the iSheep users in the office who take much delight in my pain! "You should have got an iPhone nah nah nah"

You're not unlucky, mine is going back from a third time within 5 months, for blown ear piece speaker, pure junk.

Its going back to HTC Milton Keynes! Almost feel sorry for the phone :) I've never considered myself unlucky with phones, but then in the past I've always owned Nokias that seem bullet proof.

The worrying thing is I've got a 24 month contract with the Hero, and presume the warrenty on this Hero is only 12 months in length?? Maybe as they'll probably send me a new one it'll be extended...

At this moment in time, I'm thinking knock the contract down to as cheap as possible and get something a little more robust!

  • At least when your Hero works it can multi-task.
  • And you don't have to register a credit card to download free apps from the market place.
  • And you can just buy a new battery if you need to.
  • And it's not an Apple :D

I've seen huge amounts of issues with iPhones belonging to the people I work with. Personally the only "issue" I've had with my Hero is dust under the screen, which HTC have been very good about repairing, I should have it back by the end of the week!

One girl at work has had 3 iPhones, different faults with each. Another guy has had 2, the first one just would keep bricking itself and do nothing but black screen. Another guy is also on his 2nd iPhone and is still having issues with this one. Anyone who thinks iPhones are built to quite the same standard as the Mac laptops are completely deluded. HTC is so far the best built phone I've had. I liked Sony Ericsson phones but they were fraught with problems.

wow I must have a horse shoe up my arse and literally a rabbits foot cos I have experienced no problems what so ever with my Hero. infact I'm of to Vegas to marry the thing cos its been the best phone I've had by a mile.... not pissing on your bonfire here but if potential buyers were reading this then its all pretty negative I just wanted to say its a great phone! Very happy.....especially with the site yamgo whilst the world cup has been on!

Guess I'm just unlucky lol

I don't think the build quality is great, the buttons are starting to get crunchy and the phone has a little bit of a rattle!

That said I'd never get an iPhone, love the way we can use custom roms, and even develop stuff ourselves. Having an iPhone would just pi$$ me off :)

Sorry to hear you're having problems with your Hero. I felt proper annoyed when the USB connection stopped working and then the headphone jack icon remained on (meaning I couldn't hear calls etc) after only a month or so of ownership. This was back in Oct-ish last year - sent if off to HTC and they apparently flashed the ROM and I got it back in a couple of days. Has worked perfectly ever since, albeit with the usual lag/slowdown etc.

Like most things, I think there are some "bad" ones out there. Put it this way, I lost my Hero recently and have picked up an HD2 under my insurance - works perfectly (and is seriously fast) but the speaker doesn't work at all, so it's having to be returned before I've even gotten used to it. Ar5e.

Hope you get things sorted.

I have an unbranded htc hero and lately it has been giving me so many problems. Everytime I recieve 3 or more text messages, my phone freezes up and reboots and after the firmware's last update, I can't recieve any calls because they all go straight to my voicemail. Last week I was trying to turn on my phone and it wouldn't do anything and when I finally got it on working, I unlocked it and tried to make a call and all of a sudden the power off menu came up and if I hit the back button, the power off menu would come up and so on with every other button. The track ball seems to be unstable sometimes as I don't touch it and it still moves around.

I haven't yet managed to get yamgo working properly. It wouldn't allow me to stream ITV or BBC live in my region.. Although I'm in the UK I 'guess' the custom rom I was using (villian10.1 I think) must have had a different region footprint so yamgo didn't believe I was in the UK?
