Yet another Evo vs iPhone review

This guy really likes the sound of his own voice. *Stick with your iPhone and go about your merry way. *If you knew anything about the way Android works you would know that those apps you see in ATK are suspended and not using the CPU. *But nah that would have taken some research. *Can we please stop the iPhone vs Everything else comparisons? *I don't use the iPhone because I like to change things and install what I want. *Same reason I use a PC. *If I get malware then that is my fault but well worth the Free Will. *FYI in 6 years of using Smart phones (Windows Mobile and Android and yes an iPhone) I have never gotten any malware or crap on my phones because I read and research applications before I just download them. * I have to admit build wise the iPhone is beautifully built. *So are most of Apples products and yes that is because they exert full control over them. *I will take flawed individuality over beautiful robots any day. *

His homescreen lag argument has been gone over 1000 times. It is easily and completely fixed with launcherpro which has no lag whatsoever and is an amazing home screen replacement.

As far a virus's and malware. That is why ratings exist for every app.

He talks about people stealing information on android. I guess he never heard of the huge iPAD data leak. Seems iPhone OS is easily hacked and your data stolen.

His point about flash being so slow is becuase he is using flash lite not flash 10.1 which is much much faster and hardware exceleration hasn't been implimented yet. The best way to use flash is select the on demand feature where you can activate a video or game with a touch and leave the rest off.

His reseouce argument regarding multi tasking just shows that he knows absolutely about how android manages resources automatically.

As far as the app store, the iphone app store is better, but not THAT much better.

I had the 3GS, and I must say the only thing that the android apps market lacks is in video gaming, android doesn't have a 1/4 of games as the apple app store. That it! It would be awesome to play a lot those games with the 4.3 " screen.
But at least I still have my iPad, and if I want mobile games, all I do whip it out, and play games. And they look a lot better than any mobile device.

He's right about the lag. The delay is ridiculous.

Thats the one thing that I would agree with. I'm not sure why Android users accept this either. Now I wouldn't go as far as him saying its ridiculously slow, but I would say that it is a bit slower than the iPhone.

Some fanboyism? His only valid points are the camera sticking out too far and the inability to easily close an app without running ATK.

He's obviously not a techie and doesn't understand the open source model. This was just an ignorant rant.

You don't think the EVO having lag isn't a valid point? You can see the lag for yourself. Its like saying the sky isn't blue.

The lag isn't as bad as he's saying, but it is there.

Apple fanboys or Android fanboys, I don't care about that crap, but people need to seriously wake up and not have a loyalty to any one company. If it smells, then its poop. I see both Apple and Android users making excuses for their devices instead of owning up to their shortcomings.

I just want a good working phone.

But it doesn't just lag in the UI. It happens in apps too. As seen in the air hockey video someone posted recently.

I was actually the one who made that video. My point in recording it wasn't to show that the phone itself is lagging, possibly due to the 30fps cap, but that the touch input is seriously falling behind on the Evo. If you'll notice, the puck in the video never lagged behind for a second; it flew like a bullet and bounced around like it would on any other phone.

Now, the 30fps cap is quite significant. In fact, it's causing the Evo to perform worse in both Neocore AND FPS2D than the HTC ARIA. You know, that tiny little 3.2" screen phone on AT&T? The one made by HTC as well? Here's a video to prove it:

was this even necessary to make a video for. Who the hell cares. Both phones have flaws. and guess what a year from now they will still both have flaws and a year after that........ you guessed it, they will have flaws. its the nature of technology. If u LOVE your iphone then Androids flaws will be pretty prominent to u and vice versa. I agree with a lot of his points but so what....... I didnt expect perfect pix or performance with this phone. What i expected was an upgrade of the last generation of HTC hardware and thats what i got.

There is no sense in competing with apple. their closed mindset and products makes the extremely hard to beat when it comes to quality and other aspects. They run a tight ship and that isnt a bad thing at all. It insures high quality and good performance. Which is why phones coming out now barely keep up with the 1st gen iphone. But android i headed in the right direction and just needs to be polished up and packaged a little better and it will get there. Theres room for both

If you're able to settle for a device that's riddled with issues, that's fine. Some of us aren't. Most of the issues with the Evo aren't flaws. They're crippling issues that were intentionally designed by HTC so they wouldn't have to pay up for drivers. This guy's first point makes perfect sense; the Evo, and perhaps ONLY the Evo, is ridiculously slow in tracking your touch input.

Dude thanks for posting that video! I didn't realize it was yours. I made a thread bout it here.

I'm sick and tired of Android users saying "Get another phone", "Its not that bad", "every phone has flaws".

Its just plain ridiculous that users would make excuses for HTC when they've plopped down their cold hard cash. I feel like some people are just too proud to admit faults of their EVO. I love my EVO, but what HTC did to it is crappy!

Then get an iphone. I personally havent had an issue with my screen not being responsive enough. I rarely race my finger across the screen over and over to see what will happen. Scrolling in a normal manner while maybe not as fast as an iphone, is plenty sufficient for the average user.

If people look through the forums a little bit then u will see this is a well documented issue. We all know. Obviously those of us that still have an evo and arent returning them are ok with it or dont see it as a major issue. Its like people arent happy unless someone else agrees with them and runs around proclaiming the same thing. HTC knows there is an issue and probably knew it before it came out. they probably could care less and have no intention on fixing it. So either wait for froyo or jump ship to IOS4

I think people say that because this is an evo forum that is intended for evo users to discuss things that can be fixed or changed. As u can see we all know the Evo has faults/issues/problems. We know there are screen issues but we cant do anything about it so why whine about it. We choose to stick with it regardless. No one is saying the phone is perfect or without faults. I personally show no loyalty to any one company or phone. I go with whats hot when it comes out.

Another reason people may defend the evo is because they honestly dont see the issues u do. Maybe they are coming from a low end device or from something that was worse than what we experience now. And to them this device is a breath of fresh air. Its all relative. So calm down

How that is at all acceptable is beyond ridiculous. Remember that HTC has done this before with the HTC Tilt.

Umm, I notice no lag unless there's a dozen apps running hogging up memory.
