Should i wait?

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum andi found some very good information reading the whole forum. I will be buying my first ever smartphone and most probably that's going to be the Desire.

Anyway, may question is should i go and buy the Desire now or is it better for me to wait for a while to see if something new is around the corner?

My concern is not to get a better device but rather to save some euros since if HTC releases a new phone in Europe the price of the Desire will probably fall alittle bit, right?

What do you think i should do?

Well HTC are one of the most prolific manufacturers and are nearly constantly releasing new phones. However, that doesn't mean it's constantly "upgrading" a particular range. They tend to release phones designed for different markets eg. basic, moderate, advanced etc That means that it could be a while for a "successor" to the Desire to appear so it's price will remain high. Having said that, there are some good contract deals out there for it.

If you keep waiting for "the next best thing" then you'll never buy a phone. Desire is, seemingly by popular opinion, the best Android phone available now and fingers crossed the 2.2 update will be out sooner rather than later and it'll be better still.

Up to you if you want to wait but I say if you want it, just get it and enjoy it

yeah, get it now and get the most out of it, something better is always around the corner, but if you wait for whatever it is to be released and then buy the desire you will have lost out on all the time you could have been enjoying it between now and then.

I thought about this a few weeks back whilst waiting on my upgrade, knowing the iPhone 4 would be out shortly.

Decided on the Desire without really seeing any of the "features" of the new iPhone.

The open format of Android swung it for me rather easily in the end. Better that being tied to iTunes.

Can't say, after seeing the new iPhone features, that I will, or do, regret that.

Video Calling as a feature. Wow Apple, well played, you invented video calling in which I can only call other iPhones and I can only use over WiFi...

Yup I had that on my Samsung Pixon and the Sony Ericsson I had before that and I never even tried it. That and I could it to any handset with video call capability and use it over 3G.

Not saying it won't be a good piece of kit, I'm sure it will be but to me, it all just seems a bit gimmicky...

You can be interested in the hardware but still be a troll - a troll is simply someone who posts a message hoping to get some kind of heated reaction, not all trolls are "fanboys" for competing products, so arguably coming to a HTC Desire forum on an Android board and suggesting that someone who is asking whether to buy the Desire now or later should instead buy an iPhone may be considered trolling.

Note he didn't say should I buy a different phone, just should I wait until new phones drive the price of the Desire down, if he'd asked about other phones your comment may have been valid if you'd backed it up with reasons. Since neither was the case, you can reasonably expect to be called out as a troll - maybe it was an innocent mistake but usually on the internet, if it looks like a troll and it smells like a troll - it's a troll

My brother just pre ordered the iPhone 4. I used to own a 3G, but prefer the desire now I have it.

One thing for sure, is the iphone4 is dearer than the HTC Desire. On that point is where apple wins. Op should get a Desire now and enjoy it.

Well I learned my troll hunting skills back in the days of usenet, when wild trolls roamed the land and no innocent poster was safe.

The speaker is very poor for a start, useless as a speaker phone, horrible as sat nav and garbage for music/films you tube DL's etc. You tube, whats that all about why bother watching it with the very poor quality.

Screen garbage in daylight, yeah I can see it on an angle better than other phones but why on earth would I want to do that.

Already reached the limit on app storage, not interested in rooting to obtain it and 2.2 isnt out so that doesnt matter.

Battery is poor plus why it wont charge to 100% and stay there on charge is just stupid, I can pick it up in the morn from charging overnight and its dropped to 89%!

Android well, come on its not that good, slow at times, apps are way poorer than Iphone plus market is full of asian porn crap, not as smooth as Iphone and doesnt look as good.

And to end it all the handset looks and feels like cheap plastic.

Not the quality phone I saw in the reviews while waiting for it since last year!

There isnt any Known Desire beater on HTC's horizon so far - only rumours on the net, and fake pics.
