Sorry if I'm being Captain Obvious,
If you can spare to do it, which it hasn't been a problem with me, turn off 3G Mobile connect. Turn on as needed, simplest way to do this is to add a widget to the home screen. Do as follows:

+ button, widget, settings, Mobile Network

you could also long press the home to add this widget, now just turn on and off as needed. I have used this method for about a week and have had good results, sometimes not even needing to charge overnight. I have WiFi at home so that helps tremendously, I just use WiFi at home and when I'm on the road and need it I turn on the Mobile network. Works like a charm, try this out and let me know if it works for anyone else.

Not trying to be a Dick but its been said long long ago.... last month. The topic was beaten like a dead horse

It has been my past experience that anyone that starts off with a phrase like "Not trying to be a Dick" is usually doing just that. However, this fix works for me, but it is obviously either not working for others or hasn't been tried by others, because there are still several threads complaining about battery life. Either way, I'm trying to be helpful where as you are not. If you don't like what people have to say, then ignore them and go on your merry way. Clearly you haven't had any positive input to anything in these forums or else you would have more than 2 thanks.

its kinda pointless. When you turn the wifi on it takes over for the mobile network so its no longer in use anyway and then when you leave a wifi area you have to have it on thr the phone to work.

its much easier to download the app "Y5 battery saver." it will shut down the wifi when you leave the wifi area and then it revert back to the mobile data network. then when you return to a wifi area it will turn wifi radio back on.

so much easier than messing with the mobile network on/off and forgetting to do it then not having you data connection and missing emails, IMs etc

But it makes ME feel better about my battery life, LOL, seriously though, the Y5 thing you have to set up ahead of time and tell it when to use WiFi and all, this is just a toggle on my screen, and I haven't missed an email or anything like that, this is not airplane mode, you can still make and receive calls and texts, but to update weather, or facebook, or email, you need a data connection. I don't lose the emails they just come when turn it on, I'm no business man so that's fine for me. It hasn't really been a bother at all for me. But, the Y5 app would be good if I chose to spend time to set it up.

edit...maybe you don't have to configure it much, just re read the description, I think you suggested that app to me before in another thread, and there was something I didn't like about it, but can't figure that out at the moment, it looks pretty good. LOL

There's no "setting up" Y5. You run it and forget it's there. When you are in an area where you have a remembered wifi connection, it turns wifi on and the phone connects. When you are not, it turns wifi off and mobile network comes back. Heck of a lot easier than trying to remember to click a button on and off.

But WiFi is not the battery eater, I leave WiFi on all the time, there is just no need to have 3g on when I'm driving down the road, or at work, or doing something where I can't use my phone.

I don't know. I've seen people say both ways.

So, you feel that you can leave wifi on 24/7 and it doesn't eat battery looking for wifi networks when you aren't around a wifi network?

I wouldn't be that surprised if that's the case. I mean, when you use Y5, it has to be looking for something all day long too. I just figure even if the savings of having wifi off when not around wifi is marginal, it's no big deal because y5 turns it on and off for me with no user interaction.

I'm sure that without Y5, the Wifi scans for a signal when you are away from wifi, but by default your WiFi goes to sleep 15 mins after your screen does, you can change that setting, but I have found that I can leave WiFi on all the time, without Y5 turning it off for me, and still get good battery life, with turning the 3G Mobile on and off manually. I don't think WiFi kills the battery as much as 3G does.
