If you want to run light, you may want to do what I did.

I signed out of my facebook and twitter accounts and trashed the blur widgets. That freed up mucho space and let allowed me to move faster and lighter.

So, I went app happy and this is what I have.

"Swift Twitter" very good twitter app. I like it more than twidroid which is a bit heavier.

"Rings Extended" which allows you to use customized ringtones with ease and it works better than that struggle to do it stock. Try it. Also, a light application.

"OI File Manager" very nice, simple, clean file manager. Totally a must if you manage your sd card from the phone.

"TasKiller" which kills every task running in the background and foreground and frees up memory to make the phone run at peak efficiency.

"SMS Backup" I love this app because the phone doesnt have a save SMS feature (not that I have seen) and this syncs your SMS to a folder in your gmail account. Works excellent. Very light also and reliable.

"Simple UPS Tracker" I love this app. It gives your detailed looks at package movement. This isnt that crap customer view either. Its much closer to the view of the workers version.

"Nice Battery" allows you to manage your 3G/2G, wifi, gps, and will let you know if you're over charging, etc. Great! Also lets you know the status of your battery.

"NYC Subway Map" I have this because I live in NYC and i still don't know every train, route, exchange, etc. So, this is beautiful. Never get lost!

Last but not least...

"AppManager" this is what I use to manage ALL of my apps. With this you can install/uninstall from the phone or SD card. As well as back up apps to the SD card in case you want to uninstall for now but don't feel like searching through the app store to get it again.

Hope this helps.

"Twidroid" is a great Twitter App. I use an iPhone as well and for the most part is the best one I have used. It is lacking a few features of some of the iPhone Apps but is very good

If you have Google Voice the official app is okay but I'm like "GV" much better.

"Movies" by flixster is very good. I loved the iPhone App and used it alot and I was glad there was an Android version.

"Amazon.com" is great and "ShopSavvy" is another great shopping app.

I'm still getting used to the CLIQ. I'm an iPhone switcher and I've only had the CLIQ for about 4 days but so far so good. The only thing I HATE is the built in on screen keyboard. I wish the keys were just a tad bigger and a little more responsive and accurate. I know I have a slide out keyboard but I'm just not used to that yet.

Have you tried the HTC keyboard? Its MUCH better. Check it out.

1) Go to the Market and download 'AppManager'
2) Download the HTC Keyboard Installation File to your computer.
3) Mount your phone to your pc, and move the HTC_IME.apk to your sd card.
4) Open AppManager, press the menu key, and select 'Install from SD'. There you can install the .apk file. If the file is not visible, press menu again, and select 'Whole SD' so that you can see the file.
5) Go to your home > Settings > Locale & text. Select 'Touch Input'.
6) Go to someplace where you input text, such as messaging. Long-press on the text input field, and select 'Input Method'. Select 'Touch Input'.

drew,

was just trying out the on screen keyboard on the Moto Droid, know where I may be able to get that to use on the CLIQ? It was bar far the best one I've seen.

I'm not sure of where to get the droid board yet unfortunately. But I'll definitely look into it and post if I find it.

Drew,

What exactly did you do to get your startup to be so lean? I mean, did you totally uninstall all the apps? For example, I have IM starting every time, and I don't use it. Did you just uninstall it, or is there a way, like with a PC, to manually start it?

I didn't uninstall anything really. We can't root the cliqs yet which you would need to drop the apps. What I did was just not sign into anything except the motoblur account itself and google. No social networks. Drop the widgets in the trash and that's it. Dropping those widgets cleared up I 9 to 10MB. Since they're not being used to constantly pull info they save space and battery.

Drewbdope...I downloaded The pandahome to my Cliq, but, i didn't know what the status bar was at the top so when i touched one, it disabled a scrren ratio then i couldn't touch anything else on mu phone. I un-installed it and the wallpaper from pandahome stayed on my phone. I WANT to install it again, need to know how to use it.
Any suggestions???? :)

I have been trying to figure out how to install apps to my SD card, looks like this may be the answer. If I download AppManager, can the apps I already have just be transferred, or will they need to be uninstalled and re-installed on the SD? ...Also, once I have the apps installed on the SD, will the updates install on the SD automatically, or would that have to be done manually?

Thanks!

OK, so I installed AppManager (developed by Amazing Droid, it was the only one I found by this name), and I do not have the option to "Install from SD card." Do I have the wrong app?
