successful returns for light leakage?

Has anyone tried returning their evo to a sprint store due to light leakage? I noticed it last night for the first time and you can see that the bottom part of the screen is raised about the bezel while the top screen is recessed.

I had to exchange my wifes EVO because it went all haywire on us and even though it went haywire with the rep, it wasnt any fun at the sprint store so i'm worried about how hard its going to be to exchange mine for this problem.....

Are Sprint employees aware of the situation for the most part?

Call *2 first. Describe the issue. Since your within 30 days, have the rep on the phone create an exchange ticket while you're on the phone. They'll give you a super long "ticket" or "support" number. Take that number with you to the Sprint store. Say your device is defective for X reasons, and that you have a ticket number to get it replace. They reference said ticket. They have to give you the replacement, regardless of what the reps in the store think.

I called and he said just return it since i am still under 30 days. He said i didnt need an exchange ticket, just to take it back. I'm getting really frustrated with this. I've already had to return 1, now, my perfectly working EVO is gonna have to go back....

I can visibly see the bottom part of the screen is above the bezel and I can even push down on the screen and it will sink below the bezel....I'm afraid of returning it for fear of getting a phone with bigger problems, the same problem, and having to deal with the reps on this issue......

I'm seriously considering doing the unthinkable and just getting an iphone....I hate AT&T with a passion but i've had more frustration and problems with Sprint in 2 weeks than I had with my previous carrier in 6 years.....

yeah.....i'm just blowing smoke about the iphone.....its much easier to return the phones and cancel your service rather than exchange them......it shouldnt be that way......

The light leakage doesnt bother me. Its the fact that the screen is raised and dust concerns me, especially since I work in a dusty environment.....

Just exchanged mine through Radio Shack. It was an easy process besides the wait for the new phone. I called them and gave them my reciept number, they took my information down and called me when the replacement showed up. It took about a week to get it. Only bad thing is that the new one's screen is raised more than the 1st one I had. Also the camera didn't start working until I rebooted the phone 3 times. It just kept opening and shutting down right away. But the return process itself was easy.

Those with light Leakage how does it affect the phone? Is it causing problems with its usage?

Its not the light leakage that worries me....i have the body glove on it and the only time i notice it is when i'm in a dark room.....

What does concern me, is dust and moisture. I work in a dusty environment which doesnt help my fears. I really dont want to get a refurb unit with a warranty exchange. If you buy a product that is defective from the start, you should be given a new unit as its replacement. I'm just afraid that if it goes past 30 days, I will lose all leverage and will be forced to stick with mine or take a refurb.

I have the light leakage and the screen rising. I also have a ton of dust that has already entered in the top left hand side of the screen. At first I wasn't too worried about the screen leakage but after two weeks the dust is getting worse under the screen. I called Sprint to see what I needed to do to return it and they told me to go return it at the Best Buy store I bought it from. I described what was happening to the guy on the phone and he noted it on my account. I went into Best Buy yesterday and showed the people working in the mobile department what was happening. I told them that I wanted to exchange it for a new one but they did not have any in at the time. One of them went to go talk to a manager as to when they thought they were getting them in next. When they returned they took my information down and were going to hold one for me when the next shipment came in. They told me to call around the 21st to make sure they had them in and if I cant make an exchange before my 30 days is up they would make sure to work something out so I would not have to send it in or pay anything. Here to hoping the next one doesn't have the same problem.

Same here. I was also thinking about the grounding issue. Is it connected somehow? If the screen isn't making contact somewhere at the bottom does that throw the screen sensitivity off? Is that why when I lay the phone flat the top part doesn't work unless I touch it with another finger or pick it up?

i'll tell you after Best Buy quits hiding phones and saying they dont have any in stock. It's getting old. WtF do you do if the 30 days runs up and they "dont have any in stock".

I think im going to go in on day 28 and be like "look, you have to follow policy. Write me a written gaurantee signed by a manager that I get a replacement and give me an estimate delivery date."

This is my seond EVO, the first had 4 stuck pixels which I exchanged the day after launch at Best Buy. My current "better" EVO has:

1. Light leakage under all 4 buttons
2. A minutely raised screen on the lower edge
3. The grounding issue where approximately the top 1/3 of the screen is completely non responsive unless I touch another part of the phone with my other hand
4. Scratchy/static sounding ear speaker

I honestly am disgusted with this phone right now but I got one with no dead pixels (on the second attempt) which is my #1 concern so I was thrilled. But as the days go by the list above started to become apparent. Exchanging now will accomplish nothing as HTC certainly hasn't instituted fixes for these issues yet, let alone had time to manufacture and ship modified devices. I'd be surprised if they even considered this an issue and were addressing it. I remember the dozens upon dozens of complaints about the plastic cracking on the iPhone and Apple never did anything to address that.

I think issues #1-3 above area all related, I can see the light leak completely disappear when I press on the lower screen to seat it better. It stays gone for a few seconds but always returns once the screen re-rises to it's natural unsecured position. I'm not 100% sure the grounding issue is related, that doesn't seem to go away even if I push down on the screen. At this point I am returning the EVO and canceling my account until I am certain these issues have been addressed. Right now I am thrilled that I chose to get the EVO on a new line and leave my SERO account untouched. I did this exactly for the reasons I am now experiencing.

i have some light leakage, but it really doesnt bother me that much. Not sure if I want to go through all the trouble of returning it. Especially when the next one could just as likely have light leakage as well.
I am pretty convinced it will happen to all the EVOs that are being sold right now. Until they redo it, if that is the worse of your problems, you are probabaly better of keeping it then risking the light leakage plus some new defects that might be introduced in the new device....

i've decided to just wait....its not worth the stress and hassle of trying to, first, find an EVO, and then try to exchange it since Sprint employees are treating them like gold.....Other than the light leakage, its perfect and I absolutely love it.....

I keep reading threads about light leakage but haven't seen a pic yet. Can someone post some pics, so we know what to look for. I have a very slight slight light leak but it's hardly noticible. I really want to see what a bad one really looks like.

The hero had light leak all around the bezel and I never saw complaints to this level.

Off Topic, but what makes you think Best Buy is hiding phones?
