The Droid...just amazing!

I have owned mnay phones in my time andd probably spent over $2000 on phone hardware having to pay retail many time for different phones chasingg that dream that i might find a good phone.

Ive owned the vx6800, vx8800(I think cant remember one after the 6800) the storm many others before those. The windows based phones were junk period lol. My Blackberry curve was FAR better then my storm. None of them were that great the internet browsers on all them even the storm were crap.

Now here i sit with the Droid and only costing me 99 bucks with the $100 rebate im just amazed. The browser works 200% better then any of my other phones even better then my Ipod touch. Everything ive found so far that came with the droid was very useful and the market place is amazing!!

Now i will sit here and wait for releases to improve my Droid. Im hoping to maybe get the Sense UI on my phone as that UI is sexy as hell and with the droids hardware hoping it will run smooth.

well thanks for listening to my past to present lol. Im just amazed at how damn good this phone is and glad i waited and verizon finally made it possible and with such a great phone!

I hear ya! Although it does have it's quirks and room for improvement, its the best phone I've had ever as well. Coming from BB's, Moto's, HTC's (winmo), Samsungs, etc... I think what also sets this apart is the whole Google Experience so far. Just fantastic. Oops.. well Google Voice 5 minute refresh times and no support of MMS was such a downer for me but the Droid is just bad*ss!

Surprisingly haven't got quite used to the real keyboard. It was one of my main reasons for buying it.. a "real" keyboard. But I find myself actually using the virtual keyboard and low and behold I really like it. The real keyboard's D pad causes my right thumb to over stretch accessing the right side keys and my index fingers that hold the Droid at top has little room clasping it perfectly when the keyboard is open. It fits better in my hand with the keyboard closed and typing on the virtual.

The real keyboard is getting better as I use it. I read an article that stated it has a learning curve and its true. The more I use it the more comfortable and faster I get without errors.

Also another thing as I type this on my droid...lol. I can't wait to start taking advantage of the powervr videocard on the phone. I wonder how the marketplace will work since isn't this droid the only android so far that supports this amazing videocard(same one in iphone 3gs) that renders amazing 3d?

Totally agree, I love my Droid. I came from an iPhone 2G and the Droid is better in every way. Surprisingly I am not using the hardware keyboard as much as I thought I would, the landscape virtual keyboard is easier for me. I guess practice would help but I keep thinking, why bother sliding that thing out when the virtual KB is so good?

I paid straight up cash for mine. Walked into Walmart, dropped my CC on the table, and walked out 532 bucks lighter but w/ my Droid.

The REASON I chose to do this was so I could save my contract since I have a feeling the Droid craze is going to catch on and we'll see quite a few new phones in the next 6 months. So I can sell my Droid, if another one is a "must have" for at least the "on contract" price of one of those phones if they somehow blow the droid away.

I'm quite happy with my device. I can't put it down.

Plus I haven't bought a new phone in a few years...lol. I was rocking my original release 8330.

I agree with ya on not putting it down. I have been to all my favorite websites and these forums all day using my phone. I never habe been able to use a phone so well while on the net and at that on the full version of the websites,

I don't understand why people say the browser on the iphone is better I have a 2nd gen ipod same browser as iphone and ill tell ya right now the internet looks better and seems to be handled way better on the droid screen. If I tried to do forums on the iphone it was never this easy!

I thought about doing that but in all honesty this phone I can see me keeping for a year at least so I went for it. In about a year I'm sure by then there will be something far better. I spent 5yrs working in Tech for Alltel (first as a regular rep, then mgmt). I have SERIOUS phone junkee syndrome from that.

It's all a direct result of the Droid's beautiful high resolution screen, makes the iPhone screen seem grainy and low resolution in comparison. I love that I can load up many sites in landscape mode and read them without any need to zoom, sure the font is a bit small but it's totally usable.

Maybe that's why they left out pinch to zoom, I feel no need for it at all. The way it is you can get a great page overview and then double tap to zoom works great. Also maybe it's my imagination but it seems like the Android 2.0 browser on the Droid does a terrific job of formatting the pages to fit the screen after double tapping. Once upon a time I had a T-Mobile G1 and I remember that doing a relatively poor job of fitting the pages on the screen.

Really? I thought it was $199 *after* the rebate and that everyone was payine $299 out of pocket initially?

This is definitely the best phone I've ever owned and I LOVE it. The only gripe I have is that the app selection/ quality can't really compare with apple atm. I love all my apps on my iPod 3rd gen but my iPod doesn't have GPS, 3G, and a drop-dead gorgeous screen.

I bought the Droid because of its specs but also to help jump-start the android community since I feel like it could be a major competitor for apple (don't get me wrong I still love apple though lol but AT&T is evil according to my family and friends from experience).

I think they might be forgetting that iTunes plays a major part in the success of the iPhone and the iPod since it becomes somewhat of an interface that can easily sync your multimedia, providing a better user experience.

The android doesn't have something universal that is available to all OS's yet which allows for easy syncing of multimedia. But the one thing that Android does have is free OTA syncing which in my opinion has such GREAT potential. my hope is that they start advancing the google sync feature hopefully leading to a future where we can have an interface ONLINE that we can access from anywhere. That way we can organize on the web if we want to.

If they start to integrate all the google service somehow and designed it to have great user experience (I think most google apps are designed for power-users and can sometimes require a learning curve to learn all the amazing features of google apps) they could rule the world (well maybe not the world, but the internet!!! lol).

With some fine tuning to the OS to make is more user-friendly (like honestly I wish each app had a close option, that way I didn't have to download a third party app just to close apps, and why do some of them keep restarting?) Android will be a MAJOR power player in smartphone/multimedia phones, and a major competitor to apple.
