Do yourself a favor, root and install Desire Sense UI rom. You will not regret it. The ROM is silky smooth and the interface is to die for. My battery has significantly improved by 30%-40%. The only problem I've heard so far is that the bluetooth is unstable at the moment...but I don't even use bluetooth. I'm not even sure why it's being called an Alpha ROM?? It feels like a finished product to me. My nexus one feels like a totally different phone. Desire Sense UI ROM includes Wifi and wired USB tethering, new and improved camera options, customizable trackball notification colors.. you'll also get Torched since you'll be rooted :) This is hands down, the sexiest ROM for android. What are you waiting for???

Some people want Froyo for the Flash support.

There are a few things about Sense that are better, to me, than Vanilla Android.

1) People widget -- I like being able to have a scrollable widget with my favorites on the homescreen. I have seen some on the market that try to copy this but not as well as htc.

2) Messaging widget -- I used to look everywhere when I had my myTouch 3g for just a simple widget that showed the sms on the homescreen and that used the picture of the sender. This one does it right. Others ( pure, etc. ) does it okay.

Sometimes, after switching over to Cyan ROM for bluetooth and MMS, I find myself missing the contacts app on Desire. Just something so cool about being able to slide the slider and check on facebook updates, read messages, etc.

Hopefully we will eventually get a 2.2 Desire (or Incredible, Evo, ....) ROM and have the best of both worlds.

They sense UI would not work on my nexus. It would say it would have a signal, but never connect to the internet. Waaawaa :(

@ cigar3tte: The Desire ROM has flash 10 support. Videos load up in web pages, which is quite nice.

@ hotdogwater: install the Desire ROM again and I'll show you the steps to get data again. The reason you weren't able to connect to the internet before is because the Desire ROM wipes your APN settings. I was experiencing the same thing, but I messed around with the settings and got it to work perfectly. PM me if you need help with the correct settings.

@ jbman: hopefully we'll get the HD2 Sense ROM!!! :D:D:D

The only thing I would add to froyo to make it perfect for me is nandroid backup or any full image backup. At least that way you can back up all data/apps/settings including OS before rooting and experimenting. My BB had this thru Desktop Manager, would think Android would too. I read somewhere about installing it on froyo, but I think I misunderstood the title of the instructions. It didn't lead toward that end.

I would like to root with cyan quickrooter, but afraid of losing all when I do the root. Does it always wipe everything or is there just a potential for it? I have read over 30 hours of info on this and found nothing step by step for an idiot. I like the idea of a custom ROM that has Flash 10.1 and not flashlite, although maybe flashlite is good enough for viewing news clips etc. Desire ROM with Flash would interest me.

Nah.. I prefer stock vanilla Android!

Been waiting for the official release of Froyo lol! Been running Froyo FRF50 build for what... a month now?

Glad Google is taking the time to release Froyo! A polished OS is better than a quickly released Buggy one!

Desire ROM does not have full flash support, only Flash lite.

Sense UI is over-rated and in some ways now more redundant since Stock Android has significantly improved with Froyo......yes, the stock version really is getting that good these days.

Like some others here, I am running Froyo with LauncherPro and the whole thing hangs together nicely and is quick.
