So I bought the "Platinum" Case from BB on launch day with my phone. You know the one that slides on from end to end and locks in place.

Well I take mine off when Im not at work. I like to keep my Evo naked when Im around the house etc. Anyways I was looking at my phone today and shiney black bezel that wraps around the whole outside of the phone is scratched up pretty badly. Some rather deep scratches and and a lot of rubbing of the clear coat off. Needless to say Im not thrilled and Im taking the case back to BB for a refund.

What happens is dust, sand and other junk gets in the case when in your pocket and when you slide the case off and on the phone from time to time it rubs the phone and scratches it all up.

So if any of you have this case I suggest you be careful with it and remove it sparingly if you'd like to keep your phone looking like new.

Now my Evo doesnt look new anymore. Guess it was gonna happen eventually but I was hoping it would take longer than two weeks.

Ah yes... I brought this up in a review thread. This is something I have experienced with all Seidio hard cases for the past 3 phones I've had them on. It was worst on the HTC Touch Pro, which had a chrome bezel that scratched easily. So I'm opting to wait for the Case Mate or Otterbox for the EVO.

The solution is a two-layer case that utilized a soft material on the inside and a hardshell on the outside. BUT the hardshell must clamp down on the soft material at all edges/entry points (speaker, camera + LEDs, USB, HDMI, headphone jack, kickstand) or fully encase them (volume rocker, power button), disallowing all dust and dirt from entering AT ALL. None of the available cases accomplish this at this time, and Seidio's closest (the Active case) attempt at doing so exposes the phone still by allow the edges of the soft rubberized material to be peeled back.

Crazy thing is I bought this thing to offer some protection for my phone until other companies release better cases and in the end the case that was supposed to offer some limited protection ended up scratching the phone itself.

I would stay away from these cases guys if you want your Evo to stay looking like new. I could of just not gotten a case and probably had better luck with not scratching my phone.

i'm sorry to hear that but why buy a case if you're gonna take it off and put it back on repeatedly? i always clean the inside of the case before putting it back on and have no issues but sorry urs got scratched

Sent from my EVO 4G using Tapatalk...
Like I said I only use it when Im at work and when I do take it off I clean the case but that's just it...taking it off with the dirt and grime in there is what did it.

In defense of it I do work lawn and landscape but I never take the phone out of the truck. It always stays in the cubby safely in the truck. It's not like I keep it in my pocket when I'm mowing because Im afraid it will fall out of my pocket and get mowed over or something. If I need it I go to the truck.

Otterbox cant come soon enough.

Would a full ghost-armor kit help with this problem? I had BB install the full kit, but would rather have a hard case and was thinking of just sliding it over the GA.

Thoughts?

I have the full phantom skinz kit. The case is a bit more difficult to slide on, have to work it to get the case completely on. Takes effort to remove as well. Will also move around any skins covering the sides, mine produced a couple bubbles which I easily pushed out.

Returned mine to best buy yesterday. Not because of scratches but because $30.00 for a plastic case is a joke and that was without the holster. I felt it made the phone pretty bulky and cheap feeling too.
A guy was being shown one right as I was walking by the wireless area right after I returned mine and I walked up and said dont get that case it will scratch your phone up. I showed him what it did to mine. Needless to say he passed on buying it. Went with a silicone case for the time being until something better is released.

Seidio/Platinum cases are junk. I'll never buy another one of them again and I will steer everyone I can clear of them and their products.

Im really not happy with how my phone looks now. It really kind of pisses me off to be honest that the case did this.
