Squeaky phone

Squeaky worth it? I didn't think so, especially when other black ones don't squeak.

But now the dilemma is, go for another black or wait for a brown.

RUMOR - when the browns return they will be returning with the new white ones too. From CC big mouth.
Mines black and it squeaks ... loud enough to wake my wife up when I'm trying to txt my mistress in bed. Put yourself in my shoes ... I need a solution bad.

I know if you buy online you must mail it back, no store returns. I am not aware of the store to store issue.

after your buyer's remorse period, its store only. if you're still under buyer's remorse 15 days (30 if you live in california) its all taken care of by Tmobile online. If they are still doing it the same way, it shoudl be a fairly painless process because they send you out a phone first so you can use it, then just mail them yours in the prepaid box. done.

That was a few years ago now...the good old days...Now you mail it back first, then they send it out...leaving you without a phone for a few days..though you can go to a tmobile store and get a loaner, piece of junk phone to have phone.

I purchased one of those 'rubberized' plastic cases. The unintended consequence is that the squeakyness (if there is such a word) went away. The edge of the top & bottom cases meet when the keyboard is closed therefore the screen cannot flex.

Hope that helps you.

Regards

Randy - the squeak on mine came from the back cover over the battery and was horrible by the volume controls. And based on how I held it with the keyboard in use the squeak sounded every key press. Glad your fix worked though.

I got lucky I guess. The only squeak I had was the lower left-hand corner of the screen. When ever it was pressed upon there was an annoying creaking going on. I assumed (always a bad idea) that this is the noise everyone was referring to. I suppose I really do think it's all about me.

Are you still without a G1?

I am. I am trying to wait for the brown/white build to show up. I do have a black one in my house, but due to it's "masturbation factor*" I don't get to use it much.

*for those unaware this is the fact that it is fondled and touched and never put down....and yeah I just that made that up. You read it here first.

Not to fall off subject but what would lead you to believe that there is a structural difference between the colors of the phone? (Referring to your earlier post about the Bronze being built better)

As for what will now probably be hence-forth referred to as the "M-Factor" it makes me believe that I will not be able to text in public ever again.

The same other people on this forum who clued me in that the squeak was more widespread commented that the bronze model did not have the same issue. I did visit a store and try to make the black and bronze squeak and could not, and the black one I saw in costco also did not, as well as the black one in my house that does not. So clearly some do and some don't...but I didn't want to take the chance.

As for the masturbation factor..the fact you hang out here on a forum probably means that your masturbation factor is high on the scale anyway. G1 owners are going to rate high.

I just read on a different thread that the squeak (I don't have it) can be caused by a little protrusion right next to the hinge above the power button touching the screen frame when it's closed. You can take a razor blade and trim that little line of plastic back a bit and it's supposed to completely fix the squeak - if it's coming from there.

I ended up shipping my black G1 which was one of the pre-order batch.
I wasn't aware that CA had a 30 day buyer's remorse until I went into a local T-Mo store yesterday
and mentioned that I was still in the period... I was like I thought it was 2 weeks.

So yeah, I shipped mine today for the white G1.

The squeak and creaks were the issue that brought to my attention to give Customer Service/Tech a call 2 days ago.
And they suggested I bring it over a local store. Funny thing was one of the rep there told me that all G1's will creak n squeak.
He even boasted that all of his friend's that has G1 noise makers..
