EVO tethered without jailbreak just by downloading app!!

So I was eventually planning to jail break the EVO and make it work with the wireless tether. For those that dont want to, there is an app called EasyTether in the App Market. $10 ..but there is a free version. No jailbreak etc.

The app call the EasyTether Lite is free. Apparently it does not allow connection to secure sites, 'https'.. I downloaded, ran the software on my computer... voila!! free tether. It uses the usb cord, but the kicker for me is that I can get onto the https sites without paying the $10 for the full version. It simply just works, but I dont think its supposed to...... Not sure if the full version is wireless. I used the win7 64 software.

Probably a trial. PDANet is the same way. USB tether or Bluetooth. Of course the easier solution which I use, is using Unrevoked to root and then downloading Wifi Tether from the market.

Why would the application be necessary? I use the HTC sync included with the EVO and as discussed in the manual. I am able to tether with USB, without obtaining any app. What does the app provide that isn't included with the HTCsync.exe that comes with the phone? And... it does allow me to go to any site HTTPS etc.

Smiles, I think HTCsync only works in 4G markets. With apps you can tether in 3G.

I rooted my Evo last weekend and promptly noticed I was being locked out of half the apps I had downloaded / purchased on the Market. I immediately went back to the stock ROM. I'd love to have wireless tether and to be able to do whatever I want on my Evo but I'm not willing to become locked out of things. I thought Root meant I had access to everything. I guess it has something to do with the 'copy protection' some devs are putting on their apps before they go up on the Market.

You have to flash with a different ROM then - I had the same problem, flashed with OMJ's ROM, no issues at all.

Last night I downloaded both PdaNet and tether freebies. One or both of the sites said download the freebie and try it out before you buy. That way you will know how easy it is to use it and make sure it works.

Sad to say that while both worked on my win7 box they would not work on my sorta old xp pro laptop, some kinda driver issue. There were a couple of posted workarounds for the xp driver issue; but it was late and I got lazy, may check it out after I have more coffee.

Bottom line is that both of the freebies worked and I got to facebook on my win7 box with no problem; so down load the freebies and check them out. If they work for you you may want to buy the real thing.

Not true. I can tether via USB with the built in HTC tether app on 3G or 4G.
Don't have to buy a thing if you want to tether with USB. Just choose use phone as modem when you connect your USB.

Don't have to buy a thing if you want to tether with USB. Just choose use phone as modem when you connect your USB.

Error code 67 occurs for 99.9% of people trying to usb tether over 3G.

yup, I get error 67. Called sprint twice and both times they tell me that USB tethering is unavailable unless I pay $30.

Other people tell a different story. It's really confusing and no one really knows what's going on at Sprint, so I just went with Easy tether lite.

That's probably due to their paranoia of a class action lawsuit being filed, I mean did any of you know that the Sprint Hotspot feature was going to be extra ($30) ?!?!?

I sure as heck didn't, never seen it printed clearly in their advertisements nor mentioned in their commercials or the Sprint store when I bought the damn phone on the 4th. I'm just NOW finding out for the first time that there 'MAY BE' a $30 fee associated with tethering. And I'm still unclear on who to believe, one post says it's extra and other feel strongly that they don't. What I do know with certainty is that MY Evo's hot spot feature will NOT work whatsoever.

I'd appreciate it if anyone who posts up from now on that it does work share if they're paying extra, if they live in a 4G zone, if they know if it's just a trial period. TY!

Does the phone say anything other than Error 67? Does it say anything involving PCS Vision?

Not to be a jerk but really? It was all over the place that the wireless Hotspot would cost 29.99 per month. Albeit in the fine print on the marketing ads but still. It was all over the Internet, tech sites, this forum, Sprint's site. Granted a sales person should have mentioned it at purchase especially considering one of the questions they asked me was "Would you like to add the wireless Hotspot function for 29.99 per month?". I agree however that wired tethering was not mentioned anywhere nor was being charged for it but it was a safe assumption that it wouldn't be free. Never has been on Sprint Smartphones right out of the box.

Of course the easier solution which I use, is using Unrevoked to root and then downloading Wifi Tether from the market.

This is what I am doing as I type this. I am on my laptop using this solution, works great! Free and no restrictions.

I tried the included application of the phone and kept receiving the error 67. Downloaded pda net for the evo and worked like a charm. One warning is that will not work with Windows xp only Windows 7.
