UPDATE: Got a working cable from Sprint: http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/106539-hdmi-amzer-vs-sprint-cable.html#post986876
Well, I'm really bummed!
I *FINALLY* got a Micro 1.4 Type D HDMI to standard HDMI cable!!
I got the Amzer cable from these guys: http://www.wireless4cheap.com/Micro-HDMI-High-Speed-Male-To-HDMI-Male-Cable-5-Feet-P88375.htm (althought I bought it from them through eBay and the link was
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160438986842).
They show a video of it working with the EVO and even say it is FOR the EVO.
But I plug it in and nothing happens. I quadruple checked my TV settings.
I have a Samsung 52" Widescreen 1080p 120Hz TV. It's about 3 years old but works like the day I got it.
Then I began to wiggle the cable around and IT WORKED!!
For like half a second.
Then if I wiggle it any more, it never works again.
If I reboot, I can get it to do it again, but just for a split second. Then it either goes black until I unplug, or it goes back to on the phone.
I'm pretty sure it was wiggling it in the phone port, not the cable itself, and not the TV's HDMI port. It could either be the port itself, connector itself, or maybe the crimped part at the base of the connector on the cable.
I tried both Video and Photo. I can't seem to get Photo working at all, but I got a video to work (for about a second) even while it was in the middle of playing.
So I think I'm "close" but no clue just "how far" I really am. Is it a bad cable? Bad port? Bad OS/bug? Bad TV??
Note: I have used the TV and the very same HDMI port numerous times for my HTPC (motherboard has native Blu-Ray capable HDMI out and supports full 1080p playback).
Any ideas on what I could try?
I'm thinking if the metal isn't connecting inside the connector, I could somehow thicken it up so it does (I'm guessing the ring of the connector port part is (-) ground?)
