Access PC from Phone

Is there a way for me to access, say my music on my PC from my phone?

What sort of apps would i need. That would be cool to be anywhere and have access to my music library, save transferring what i wanted onto the phone.

Theres plenty on the market. VNC, PhoneMyPC, to name 2. That said I think LogMeIn do something in Beta too.

if you get gmote on the phone and install the server app on the pc, you can use your phone as a wireless mouse/trackpad and keyboard, and also play music directly on the pc using controls on the phone, or (and this is the clever bit), you can play the music stored on the pc through the phone!

also the app FTPserver can be used to wirelessly transfer any file to the phone.

There's an app called Jukefly that's specifically for streaming music - I think you install the app and a server app on your PC, sign up for an account (IIRC it's free - the account is basically so the PC can tell your mobile device what your IP is, to get around dynamic IPs) and you can access your music from your phone, or any other mobile device (laptops, friends' PCs, etc).

Can't say if it's any good but it sounds like it might be the thing.

A mate of mine is using Orb live. Also homepipe is similar. I'm waiting for his review on the former.

Well that. Depends on the upload speed of your line. Works fine for me.

Ive tested Orb live on wifi and H, although takes a while to load (buffer) works ok. I have bought the full version now. I will test on Edge later on to see if the setting the stream speed to medium will still let me use it.

I haven't either but with gmote you specify where your files are stored using the serverside app on the PC so in theory yes this will work, you add the network drive the same way you do the music folder on C

If you are using over a home network can I suggest ES File Explorer. It is a well featured file explorer for your phone that you can also use to access shared folders/drives on your network making it really easy to stream music or videos etc. onto your phone.

Yeah, i've just set that up and works a treat. Now i'm looking to set this up whilst not on Wi-Fi.

I don't think it would. You need log me in pro to transfer files.

Yeah crap, just seen a feature matrix and Free doesn't support file transfer, only pro @

You can just view whatever is on your PC screen. Of course you can control it too.

I mentioned earlier I was using Orb Live. its $10 USD, but its music and video only really. Video isn't great but music is pretty good.

Not sure about photos though.. As in what to use.

EXCEPT!.... I've just found the limitation of the Lite version, it's root folder is hard-coded to the My Documents and doesn't recognise shortcuts, so i cannot access my music/movies.

No, i'm a fanny. There is no restriction. You can just go to the homepipe website and set up folders / directories to be accessed.

So i'm working. End of thread for me. Thanks for the input

I was thinking exactly the same thing yesterday, app select has to be in the next build, I can't imagine it would be that hard to implement?
