2 Questions regarding Youtube and Speed tests.

Alright a couple questions for you guys.

I recorded a match of me playing COD MW2 on PC, converted it and encoded it. So its a 200+MB file. Transfered to my phone, decided i'd try uploading it from there to youtube. I get an error saying I can't upload files greater than 1 gig. It's not even a quarter of a gig.....why the error?

Another question, I jus got done doing random speed tests(.8 -1Mb down and .1 -.3 up is average, kinda crappy) so I decided to go to the actual speedtest.net site via the browser. My question is, why does my phone(or my location) show up halfway across the country? As if you were to do it on the computer, it shows up in your area. Does the DNS have anything to do with it? I only ask about DNS because on one speed testing site the ISP comes up as SPCSDNS.net, which most likely means SprintPCS DNS.

Hmm thanks but that doesn't really have anything to do with my questions.

The app sucks at detecting your location. Do a speedtest on wifi first, and then switch to 3G.

I wasn't asking about my speed, I was asking why my location shows up in the northern states when I live in southern florida on the speedtest.net website from the browser, not the speedtest app.

I have had the same problems with speedtest.net. Maybe 1 in 10 times I get a local server, most of the time its pulling from a server 500+ miles away. Not sure how this is affecting my speed. I get 1.2 to 1.8 megs/sec Down on 3G, so im still pretty happy. But, would like to see the accuracy/improvement of having a local server from SpeedTest.

Your phone is assigned an IP address every time you long on to the data network..

Wimax as of now rarely assigns you a local IP, traffic is routed to various Sprint servers all over the country so that they can

1. make repairs to the network/towers.
2. Reduce congestion on a tower(s)
3. Test new installations and or software..

Most speed test rely on your ip address/location to assign or tell you which server to ping during the speed test.

Unfortunately this will obviously give you a false reading because most of the time you are not in the state that the IP address is detected in.

Even if you change the location to where you are at, the speed test will still give you an inaccurate reading because of the perceived latency/distance assumed by the test.

Also most sites that perform the speed test are overwhelmed themselves with thousands of people performing speed test all of the same time.. A server can only handle a certain amount of traffic before it get bogged dow..

On a whole speed test are not really a true indication of the actual speed performance of any cellular network.

This goes for 3g as well. Though you are more likely to be assign a local ip address on 3g
