New HDMI still junk?

So I had originally bought a HDMI from Amzer and it didn't work at all butts only 9 bucks. So I went to the Sprint store and paid 31 for one of theirs. The new one kind of works but only if you juggle the cord just right. The picture that shows up is very very grainy and has NO sound! So is the cable junk or is my HDMI port on my phone possibly junk?

thanks
Tex

I had issues with HDMI and tried 2 cables and 3 different TVs.After the 3rd hard reset It works flawless on my front TV,but locks up the phone on my bedroom TV.I firmly believe this is all a software issue...

I got one of the Molex HDMI cables from Arrow a couple of weeks before the phone even came out. I've had no problems and 720p looks great!

I have 4 HDMI inputs on my tv and I tried all 4 of them. What i saw when it did was atrocious. Will they replace my phone if the HDMI output is bad? I wonder if they can even test for that at the store? and no I paved full price for mine, no sample here:(

They better. its a defective phone AND still within the 30 days.. but either way still a defective phone.. if you bought a 450$ TV and an HDMI port didn't work wouldn't you take it back to walmart?

As evidenced by the PC Mag, Android and Me, and Cnet reviews of the HDMI out, TV compatibility can play a huge role in whether the HDMI out works or not. Don't necessarily be so quick to rush to a conclusion that the Evo is defective.

Similarly, it has a lot to do with whatever video it is you're trying to play back.

The best way to test then is using Gallery in slideshow mode. That is what I did. I wiggled my cable and got it to work for a second then crash my EVO's gallery app. This leads me to believe it is not the TV or content and it is not the cable, but either the connector or port, or the software. Either way, if the connector/port is loose and flaky, the software should not crash. I will be sure to get this on file with Sprint just because I'm almost at my 30 days. I don't think it will be resolved until I get a new cable and can test further and/or in Sprint's presence.

That's rubbish. If you have a widescreen tv, it'll handle the aspect ratios.

I have a 52 inch Samsung LCD. I doubt its a problem with the tv. Just wondering what Sprint can/will do for me?

Just to throw this out there, I've tried my Evo HDMI out with my Vizio VF551XVT at home and a Samsung at work. The Vizio was able to handle everything (Youtube, 480p/720p video, Gallery Slideshow). The Samsung at work was only able to handle 720p video; it complained something about there not being a signal.

rubbish eh? it's quite easy to just blurt out anything without thinking about what you're saying or actually knowing anything about the subject.

The problem is related to hdmi handshaking / aspect ratios. They should have included better controls on the phone, but regardless if you have the right TV it works fine. Some tv's can adapt the aspect ratio, some can't.

have you tried using different aspect ratios on your TV?

if so, and jiggling the cord makes it work I'd bring it back to the store no doubt, especially for $30. "HQ" cables are BS... $5 cable does the same thing if you can find a good source. I'd check amazon.

I've tried my phone on a couple of different TVs. Samsung sucks for compatibility. I was able to play videos created on my phone at 720p, MPEG 4... but nothing else.

A cheap-ass knockoff TV at work (can't remember the brand-name) was able to play one video off my SD card (I believe it was 480p) but that was it.

So far, YouTube has not worked on ANY tv I've tried.

So bring back the whole phone and get an iPhone 4g? How does their HDMI output and cable work? Evo is great but some of these issues really piss me off! Whether it's the HDMI,random loss of internet, screen freezing up, dead pixels, poor phone reception or my battery being drained in 5 hours. It makes a guy wonder. Oh well hopefully my replacement will be better:)

This is what I learned. you get what you pay for. I bought one of those cheap cables off eBay for like $10 bucks and it worked for a few iterations and then it would freeze my phone and I would have to pull the battery. I bought a cable from my local Sprint store and it works flawlessly. The cable was like $30 with a 25% discount. Plus like with anything from Sprint it comes with a warranty.

Also on a side note there is an adult application that streams adult movies (short 5-10min ) clips of full movies in the Android market.

Also I thought that maybe my phone was messed up so I got a new one from best buy because I was in my 30 day warranty which turns out it has the version 003 hardware, but appears the same as the 002 version to me.
