Exclusive: Samsung Captivate for AT&T preview -- Engadget

I'm going to go ahead and preempt all the AT&T haters who will inevitably reply to this post with "HAHAHA AT&T SUCKS ONLY 800MHz!!!11eleven"

The hardware in this video was admittedly "several months old". Several months means this hardware was built before the international Galaxy-S was even released. It's VERY EARLY NON-PRODUCTION HARDWARE. The Captivate WILL run at 1GHz.

Thank you, we now return you to your regularly scheduled AT&T bashing.

AT&T Hater here. AT&T still sucks for their data plan. For their crappy android that isn't so much open source on their network. They are going lock this down like the moto backflip and htc aria. No unsigned apps allowed. root? moto backflip still doesn't have it. aria? unsure but surely it will be the same as galaxy s and aria which is bull.

The Aria has been rooted. The Galaxy-S, also rooted. News came out today on both. And nobody really cares if the backflip ever gets rooted. And in a year or 2 all the carriers will cap their data plan.

Well a year or 2 is not now as well as you don't know that for a fact thats just your guess. AT&T still sucks. Well lol of course anyone that doesn't have the backflip wouldn't care if it got rooted or not. Sure Galaxy S is rooted but thats a different phone than the Galaxy S no matter how little of a difference its AT&T's firmware as well as original galaxy S so the previous root might not be viable for the captivate. Kudos to Aria if they got root.

I don't see how Sprint could cap their data plan and at the same time charge $10/month more for data. If anything I see it moving in the opposite direction. At a certain point VOIP should replace GSM/CDMA and the carriers will move to data only.

Google is certainly moving in that direction with all their VOIP acquisitions, and it's already possible to use Google Voice for unlimited minutes although I don't think I can do it with Windows Mobile atm. And I hope they'll also change the game with cellular pricing plans like cell phones did to landline long distance pricing.
