Why do people blare music?

Lately, I have been wondering.. why do people feel the need to blare music at insane volume levels?

I mean there is a house that is probably a quater of a mile down the road from mine that plays it so loud all you can hear is a "thud" sound..

The place I work actually sells powerhorns.. (they don't intend for them to be used the way they are) and I actually asked a customer what she was using it for.. she said "I want to play my music louder in my car" then spoke about how she was going to mount it under/outside her car.. I pointed out that cars do act as a sound buffer.. they aren't sound proof but, they are designed to block noise and asked her if it wouldn't be better to install it inside her car.. she said no it would be plenty loud enough outside the car.

Am I missing something here? This girl didn't even know one song can have two speakers play independently of each other, or anything at all about audio equipment.. She just wanted a loud powerhorn to make her music louder..

I mean when people turn up the volume the way they do.. are they just trying to annoy other people? Its not like the equipment they are using is even producing semi decent quality sound..

Now I can understand that playing louder may sometimes cause a loss of quality.. However, these people aren't even trying for anything besides loud even if the music sounds horrible.. I'm not an audiophile.. but, if I were going to spend money on a sound system.. I would at least *try* for something besides "omg its loud lolol"...

I mean.. I can't really think of any other reason for mounting it outside your vehicle other than annoying other people... I could understand if someone got a really nice sound system for their house or car and got carried away with the volume.. However, this seems to be so far from the case it isn't funny.

Is it at least a bose or something? (edit.. when I mention bose and "nice" I am not trying to say that brand names make equipment universally good or bad, it can be generic and still high quality or brand name and still low quality.. I just asked bose originally because, even if over priced.. Its mentioned from what I can tell, alot in the audioworld)

I mean there is a difference between quality equipment and cheap and loud.

I am not an audiophile but, I do appreciate the music I listen to.. I enjoy it and part of what makes it great are subtle things, words spoken that are barely able to be heard by the artist.

The sound systems I'm talking about are like.. 35$ for a PA horn that is being used to play music x.x...

I guess in some ways its a bit hypocritical.. But, if they at least had nice equipment.. I could say they actually gave a crap about their music.. But, they don't... they just listen to whatever is "cool" for the moment and will be off to the next song in an hour..

I mean if I had a great sounding system, I wouldn't care if other people could hear it.. whatever... So I give people some degree of slack.. if they have a great system they paid for.. by all means let it blare..

But, if your buying the cheapest/loudest thing you can for the sake of blaring what was already low quality music.. made even worse by equipment not designed to really do anything more than make announcements.. Give me a freaken break...

I hate to say it but, its almost the difference something being annoying (a high end sound system that is too loud) and dumb and annoying (a sound system that is ironically not designed to play music playing whatever is popular at the moment at max volume).

We live in a society with a severe lack of respect for the people around us, and this is just an extension of that.

I like my music loud from time to time.... but when it's so loud that in infringes on others ears it's time to turn in it down, IMO.

The people above me blare music so loud that while I'm laying on the couch, the vibrations from upstairs goes down the walls, through the floor, and to the couch. This is at 2AM. My solution? Cops. I always give them until 2AM to shut up or that's my resort.

It's obnoxious, stupid and inconsiderate.
Par for the course, really.

When I lived in the dorm... we called the "hall monitor" or whatever it was who was suppose to be in charge of keeping things reasonable.. and I got my tail light busted out.

When we called the cops.. the cops acted like it was my vehicles fault "I always buy american they are a little tougher" was his response..

So.. afterwards.. I actually walked out of my dorm.. out of the building and walked around to the room blaring.. there was no one in there.. the people would turn their music up to max volume sunday morning and leave..

It annoys me because, if my music is ever even audible people tend to complain.... Yet other people seem to be able to get away with everyone in town hearing their music.. I sometimes find it ironic..

It doesn't matter that I have on headphones and they use megahorns x.x

Don't get me wrong.. its obnoxious no matter what the situation is.. but, I still believe there is a difference in someone who just got carried away with their music and someone who buys megahorns to load them on the outside of their vehicle.

Oh I'm really sorry to hear that Snow_Fox. Thankfully, the police department keeps my information confidential and I don't need to meet the police. There's no real way to know who called because the music is so loud that it's easily audible from the street (they're on the 2nd story in the back). When I study in Paris, I at least will be living with a French family in a home hopefully. No blaring music there.

I love playing my music loudly. And once or twice I got out and left the engine running (like at a gas station or quickie-mart) and when I got back, I was surprised how I could hear my music from outside my car.

I'm not saying all, but I'm sure SOME of those people don't realize that the world can hear their music.

What's wrong with metal? I actually enjoy all kinds of music. Its real funny when I got some rascal flatts or trace adkins pumpin on the stereo.

-but I do understand the considerations of others. IMO any loud activity that bothers other people(regularly) in living situations is inexcusable. I mean, you do have to draw the line somewhere. And IMO, past 9/10PM on weekdays or past 11PM/12AM on weekends is unacceptable.

Now in a car, I have a pretty loud stereo. If I max it it'll sound like crap though, like all the street walkers/g wannabea thugs do. I have that much power so I can listen to it loud, and still have it sound good, so many people focus on bass bass boom boom they forget about the highs that actually make the song. Plus when you jammin some country or smooth jazz, just doesn't sound good. Ok back on topic.. so yeah during the day time, in moving traffic, I listen to it as loud as I wish. When in slow, stop and go, or at night, I keep the volume down. I also don't flip the bass so high it rattles the houses(I don't think?) But enough to let me feel the music. That's fair I think.

And if someone is blabbin on their cell with no headset/handsfree, I purposely turn it up and pace them. Bwhaha.

Im a HI-FI enthusiast, and amazed how many people try to persuade me to kit the car out with subs and other pointless tat. I listen to what they have running and im amazed at the THD produced.

Human ears are human ears, they can only take so much.. some even fail noticeably after just one loud event.

An accidental cure came to me several years ago when my doctor suggested niacin in fairly high doses as an alternative to statin drugs for cholesterol. The sounds, ringing and hissing, etc, gradually diminished over several weeks as I took the niacin in increased doses.

Not much of anything at all when I got up to a full 3 grams per day after about two and a half months.

Doc says he gets reports of that from happy people about "one in four" who can't tolerate statins and go to the niacin (slow release).

Generally thats only for prolonged periods of time. I don't ALWAYS have my music up loud =D. And never above comfort level. But some peoples comfort levels are different than others. Not all humans are created equal!
